Mighty Noranda had a great first up win against a fair mossy park side.
In as mentioned very hot and trying weather but our superior fitness got us over the line.

Have a great Easter break gents and lets pray that after the break w have some cooler normal football weather .

Should be a good year in the hawks camp as always

Well Round 1 has been and gone. Two teams beaten by their own inaccuracy, 3-close games and an absolute blowout...

At Berehaven, my beloved Cougars took on Thornlie coming down from C1.

In the Colts;
This was always going to be a cracker of a game with Thornlie's Colts doing well last season and coming down a Grade, up against the LKC Premiers of last season in the Cubs. The Lions got out to a 3-goal lead after the first term and pretty much improved on that all day - eventually running out 6-goal winners. VERY sloppy game of footy to be honest, but what else would you expect from Round 1. Our boys were far from their best which is good signs going forward - Thornlie 100% the better side on the day and deserved their win.

In the Reserves;
Old Loves-A-Goal was called at 4pm Friday and asked the question.... In an accepting mood, he put down his Pint and immediately went to bed in anticipation for the big game. Getting to the ground, he saw a few old SFL friends suiting up for the Lions and making him smile, they had also put on 15kg! Game Time. The Cougar Two's had the majority of the ball all day and ran out 6-goal winners. Couple of new players and the Colts who couldn't get a game being the difference. Great news for our Super Twos to start with a win after being dragged through the mud (literally) last year.

The Main Game;
Thornlie 5.0 7.1 8.4 11.5
Canningvale 0.4 2.7 7.12 8.14
You can't rock up at quarter time and expect to win the game. As you can see from above, the Lions shot out to a 5-goal lead at the first break after the Cougars had majority of the ball and couldn't convert. For the rest of the game it was catch up footy for us as we spent a lot of energy getting back into the game by 3/4 time. Thornlie ran out the game the better and took the cookies.
Watching the game, and although I may be biased.., but the CV boys had far more of the ball through the middle and backline but were unable to convert going forward. Kudos to the Thornlie guys who stuck at it and SMASHED us on the rebound. No real stand out players from either side (I thought perhaps Fry from Thornlie should have had more of an impact being a Perth player). In the end the team who kicked the ball straighter, won.... SIMPLE.
Loves kicking goals, passing them off is only an option.

Good to see a new rivalry start between two close suburbs Thornlie and Canning Vale (let's be honest we don't like you). Think we are set up for a close year between all teams. Few kicks in 4 out 5 games is a good sign..

Thornlie V Canning Vale
Was always going to be a good game with our fresh rivals. The game was heated with plenty of little spot fires (bring back the biff) going on throughout all quarters; To the umpires credit they let majority of it go within reason. Although I think a few young females (banging looking) wasn't too happy with a few of the thornlie lads!! In saying that I was just happy too see girls with all there teeth (slim pickings in thornlie these days)

Thornlie played really well rebounding from the back line and kicked fairly well in front of goals!
Canning vale have plenty of potential and really didn't take there opportunities going forward. I personally think they are missing a presence around CHF.

Well done to canning vale staying behind after the game and having a few of Thornlies local favourite beer 'the export'... Heard a few rumours that players from both teams hit up the nightclubs after and would of put Benny cousins in his place!!! I love it!!!!!

Pumped for round 2.....

Better watch ur words Lionheart or the club will have that miserable lot from Carlton United Breweries pulling your carton sponsorship for serving up their enemy's product...unless of course u were serving them up from the car boot ;)

Dirty weekender- your name sums up my one nighter with a local on Saturday (the check up is needed)
Of course we love our wonderful sponsor Carlton..... Sigh....... But we like to reward our players with only the finest drop of alcohol in our local town....
The best memories are made through the emu...Where would we be in a domestic violence fight with our 15 year old girlfriend without the export?
Someone sign me up for a TV advertisement.... I'm on too something here...

is that where you get ur name Lionheart from being that your beloved Emu is distributed by Lion?

Your right in saying "best memories are made through the emu" ...Played some footy up north with some of the local lads many moons ago. Some dared not to step on the field without smashing half a carton of your beloved Emu first. Call it hair of the dog, breakfast or what you may, it worked for them and us in hindsight being the best team all year right up until 2nd semi final day when we had 10 pull out due to that remarkable effect the Emu can have when combined in super heavy doses with gravity. The following week on prelim day 12 of our fellas were locked up after being arrested at the ground on arrival. Police had waited all year to get em back for the previous New years Eve brawl, which occurred after copious amounts of the Emu were consumed, with the local cops just happening to be playing for the opposition that day. Most inglorious exit to a finals campaign I've ever been involved with. Funniest Emu moment has to be of that of the much beloved R. Wade and his missus. After 'mooning' the whole squad to show us all the battle scars his missus had left with him the night before he turned around only to see the arse end of a full tinnie crack him right between the eyes and drop him on the spot. Clearly the missus was less than impressed with him sharing their personal life.

Maybe we should start a thred for best Emu moments. Will be good for a laugh :silly:

Snesa had a bunch of 18 year olds playing league with 12+ regular league players in the 2s or injured/away.

Warnbro are a seasoned side with big bodies and a very well worked game plan. Snesa will bounce back with a completely new look league side with atleast 8 players back, but Warnbro might give everyone a touch up based on their form on Saturday.

A very well worked game plan SNES?? To have 12 league players missing is very big to say the least. If you had a full side would you of given yourselfs a chance to beat Warnbro or simply they are too good?? Was their mid fielders the strength?
