Loves-A-Goal is a busy man these days, Maggies - not sure I can put as much effort in this season...

Spending the off season at first gripper and indulging in too many parmys and pints, I have even tried to retire from playing and to change standard winter behavior to the heavens that be the CVSFC Bar.... but have since committed to a couple of games for the season.

Bearing in mind I have been down to the Cougar Den just twice, I can confirm there are some good signs early for the Canningvale boys this season.

We have a new player/coach who hails from Victoria, looks a handy type, reads the ball well and has a good head on his shoulders.

Player wise, we have lost a couple and gained a couple of country boys - one of which is a good size, which as you know will be handy for us as we have always had the speed, but have lacked body size at times (especially against the better sides). Our copious amounts of young fellas are that one year older now and an average age of 21 should run through the League side. We have nearly 60-Colts on the books, which is massive for us as we push forward and try and improve the three flags we have earnt in our first three years as a club.

An honest outlook;

League will be there and there abouts again I would think. I would hope we can finish in the 5 this year and improve on last seasons 6th position.

I would think our Reserves will be bolstered by the massive numbers of Colts we have and would look to win a few games this season - would not be surprised if they pushed for finals.

Our Colts have always been strong, and again a large number of the better Cougar Cubs will run through the League all year, but will have the odd few games off to qualify for Colts and give their young bodies a rest as we did last season. I would envisage a top 3 finish again.

Would love to hear how the other sides are shaping up.

Maggies, can you run the tipping comp??
Loves kicking goals, passing them off is only an option.

LAG I would love to run the tipping comp. 2 things are stopping me: Couldn't do as good a write up as yourself as I don't know all of the teams as you do, and secondly I run my own small business so time is precious as well.

Further more LAG , I have heard the Basso have gained a few players , also lost a couple. They have had a good pre season and apparently are fit. The coach seems to have introduced some tweaking of game plans. I watched their scratchy against Canning and noticeable changes within a few positions and the way the ball was moved around. The colts and res also have new coaches, not sure about their experience in coaching. Good to have footy back, I will be having a look this week against the Valley at home.

Coolbinia West Perth vs Carlisle
I don't know squat about Coolbinia WP except they have come down from C1 and will be looking to make amends.
Carlisle were a surprise for me last season managing to take the flag. When we played them a few years ago they looked to be a young outfit with loads of potential but were susceptible to being out-ran late in games. I hear they are super-fit this season and have a few handy additions and will be a force in C2 this season.
Carlisle

Bassendean vs Swan Valley
Bassendean came good at the right time last season after a poor start. I would think they would be there about again this season. They have some hard nuts and some silky forwards in Yarran and the likes. If they can get the ball moving quickly to their forwards they will be a tough side to beat.
Swan Valley struggled last year to get W's on the board. Honourable losses seemed to be the theme for the Grape Growers. They have a very good ruck-man and some big units around the field, probably lacked a bit of speed and fitness when facing the better sides.
Bassendean

Snesa vs Warnbro Swans
The SNESA Snails struggled last season after coming up from C3, they have some good key forwards and some silky midfielders, probably lacked a little depth. Young side though, so they will benefit from their younger guys being that year stronger.
Warnbro were a tough side to play against last year. Moved the ball as well as any side in the competition. Very few passengers. Will be hurting after last years disappointing performances at the business end of the season.
Warnbro

Thornlie vs Canning Vale
Thornlie have come down from C1 as well. Struggled for the majority of last season. Proud ex-SFL Club who will be extremely disappointed to be where they are considering the successful history of the club.
The Cougars are one year older and stronger, we are aiming to make finals this year. Still a very young side, but would think we will be a bit more competitive against the top sides this season.
On a side note here: Will be a bit of feel in the Reserves game here as when CVSFC was founded as with the ex-Armadale League guys, a heap of ex-Thornlie Reserves came to play for our Reserves and this will be the first time they have faced each other.
Canningvale

Mosman Park vs Noranda
Mosman Park had a horrible start to last season, only to win majority of their games from Round 5 onwards. Were found wanting a little in finals but that will ideally make them hungrier this season. Will be very interesting to see how they go this weekend.
Moneybags Noranda - not sure how they keep finding these superstar players but it has obviously helped as they have pushed from C4 to C2 in 2-seasons. Having done the exact same, I can personally vouch that the move from C3 to C2 is clearly bigger. Tough to pick a winner here.
Noranda

Good luck to all.

Senior coach has pushed from Bassendean 3rds to Noranda 3rds for 2 seasons winning one flag, ressies coach last season winning the flag and now is the league coach at Noranda coaching in C2 this year, and against Basso at some stage, a club he once was a proud president of and played close to 700+ games there, couldn't tell you how many seasons he coached there but felt like decades after same drills year after year were endured, from where if not pushed he was certainly shown the direction of the door. Apparently you can teach an old dog new tricks and I for one wish him well. A good man who loves his footy more than most. FYI, he doesn't pay players, never has never will, although has been known to supply big containers of lollies (confectionary for the doubters) for players on match day free of charge. Not sure if these are performance enhancing but the red snakes always got me in the mood
