Maggies, I've been involved at both Noranda recently (past 3 years) and previously at Basso for more than a decade. Can tell you categorically with hand on heart that at neither club have I ever been aware of money being paid to players period. Neither club has ever been in a good enough financial position to pay players. The 3rds team at Noranda exists because of the players that crossed from Basso and is a big reason that Noranda has any bar take at all. And if you ever wondered why a lot of 3rd grade players walked across with Dog I can tell you first hand that if ex league players are treated like 2nd class citizens the way some of us were after 10years+ service in top side by having to train at the side of the ground off the oval with basically no light in the twilights of our footy life because of senior coaches demands for total oval control then you soon start wondering why the hell you are there. Not sure if your comment is based on bad blood but can tell you much better facilities is the big reason some of us crossed over, the 'drug' culture that had started to arise at Basso being the other big reason. If you don't know what I'm talking about here then clearly you have turned a blind eye. I loved that club and was sad to see the way it was heading. By all reports things are a bit better now, I really hope this is the case!! For the record I've never been involved at a footy club with a culture as friendly to all grades of players and their families as that at Noranda.
D/W for the record this maggies person , nobody knows who it is and the comments he makes are not on bafc's behalf. (Everyone is entitled an opinion that's wat these forums are for) so whether he has bad blood with Noranda or anyone who left basso that's up to him. We at the club know the main reason why dog left and don't need you coming on here saying this and that especially as a past player and life member( cos im sure u would be after playing 10 yrs of seniors ) a few might have left for the reasons you state but hey we both know majority of them left simply because he did and that's expected. We've moved on
Personally I get sick of people saying this or that guy gets paid just because they are at a lower grade club I'd expect most of them just get sick of the time and commitment at higher levels and majority tend to head back to their junior clubs anyway especially toward the end of their careers
Bazz, I only comment because I love the Basso club. So if people want to have a crack at me for posting on a public forum, then so be it. They dont have to reply, or read my posts for that matter. It is a pity that others are not as passionate about their club. I have only said that Noranda get paid because that is what just about everyone is saying, it is not rocket science. If thats how they want to try and win a GF then good luck to them, didnt work this year. The mention of drugs etc is out of line too, people making statements like that should be careful. Not sure about 15 years ago, but definetly not in the past 5 years. The group Basso had this year looks like they were only there to play footy. So to hear such rubbish is dissapointng and degrading. When at the games I watch from the side lines and then go home, have been into the huddles a few times but I leave after the games straight away to watch AFL , so I would not know what happens after game time. Sorry for being passionet about my club of choice.
