Well what promised to go down to the wire in rnd 18, has turned into a bit of a fizer for next week.

Mt Lawley fell short by two points against Swan Ath and as a result cannot make the five. They will probably concentrate on qualifying their Reserves side next week.

Whitties with nothing to gain fell short by a kick against Beach who must be concerned about there inconsistency if nothing else.

TA's put away Maddo who now offically are playing B Grade with Collegians next year.

Whatever the resutls in round 18, TA's will play Swan Ath at home in the Elimination Final, in a game that should be played with some passion given the events of their last clash.

Beach with nothing on the line in rnd 18, will play the loser of the Wesley V Uni game in the qualifying final.

Sad to see a quality club like Collegians who have been up and about in the finals in recent years, relegated. Just shows (as Nth Freo found out last year) B Grade is for all clubs, one mediocre season away.

Good luck to all clubs and to those B Grade clubs good enough to take the next step in 2014.

Fremantle C.B.C. 7.8 (50)
University 15.10 (100)

Whitford 11.8 (74)
North Beach 12.8 (80)

Maddington 5.10 (40)
Trinity Aquinas 13.8 (86)

Wesley Curtin 20.11 (131)
Collegians 7.3 (45)

Mt Lawley 12.12 (84)
Swan Athletic 13.8 (86)

Top 5 and relegation locked away for 2013. Should be a good finals series with any of the top 4 able to take it out if they are at their best through September.

Collegians never really fired a shot after playing finals last year and its good to see Maddington heading back to B grade. Congratulations to Maddington though on winning their first game ever in WAAFL colts, their reserves will have to wait till next season to try and chalk up their first WAAFL win. How long have they been in the comp, 5 seasons? Their lack of depth through their lower grades pretty much ensured that any fixture was a lazy training run for most sides.

You'd have to ask questions on how their League side has progressed through the grades and where competitive in A grade during their stay...maybe followed $tirling$ model of amateur footy?

It is interesting that the two University sides are the powerhouses this year. I wonder has a lot of work been done in recent years by UWA and more recently Wesley Curtin to get the students attending their University on their footy list or are they mainly recruiting ex WAFL type players?

Being someone local in their area, I would just like to congratulate Swan Athletic on making the A-Grade finals for the first time in 13/14 years I think i heard. They have worked very hard over the last 5/6 years to become competitive again and its good to see some results. Well done, and hope you arent just making the numbers up come finals time.

Good post Cas, swan ath have done well, hope it continues.

As for Maddo, shit management and coaches will see them tumble thru the grades. Had the displeasure of listening to the rabble incite there own players across 3 grades a few weeks back. Nothing against the players, love watching them play but the dip shits on the sidelines need to can-it.

Get 2 colts sides, look at every club that has had sustained A grade success, they have 2 colts sides. It's not rocket science.

Last time I checked Collegians had two colts sides plus a 3rd's team.

It didn't help them much!

North freo went down last year and they had 5 senior sides as well as 3 colts sides, while having depth helps a clubs viability it doesn't always guarantee success at the top.

I feel as though the lack of depth at maddington may really hurt them if they end up losing a few star players now that they've gone down a grade.

I think u will find that clubs that have sustained a grade success have 2 colts sides.
