In last weeks’ games, the top of the table clash looked to be a one sided affair, Trinity kept their finals hope alive taking care of Wembley, Jandakot were brought right back down to earth after defeating the league leaders when they came up against Brentwood, Southern River played another game to emulate North Melbourne, having a loss against Roleystone and Osborne Park and Cobras had a just for fun game at Robinson Reserve.
Bulldog and myself were the only ones backing the Doggies and as such got 4 tips this week. Once again no one expected the River to lose. Screech actually put in his tips, but then chooses all away teams anyway, so there was probably little point to his efforts, and only got 1 tip this week. The surprise was Mad Dog not getting in his tips and as such he’s falling three behind FL87 at the top. Will be interesting to see this week, Mad Dog will most likely tip Swan View to get up and if FL87 also tips against his team it will cancel a tip. FL87 has tipped against his team before. The question is, is the coveted C4 footy tipping trophy worth getting another fine!
Tipping ladder;
1. FL87 - 3 - 61
2. Maddog - 1- 58
3. BD 1980 - 4 - 56
4. RJ - 4 - 55
5. Screech - 1 - 49
6. Footblr - 1 - 47
Onto the Games; Forecast for Saturday is for a shower or two throughout the day, maximum 19 degrees.
Jandakot (5th) vs. Osborne Park (7th) @ Atwell Reserve
Last Time: Osborne Park 93 drew with Jandakot 93
This is my vote for Game of the Round due to the effect it can have on the ladder. Jets have a realistic chance at 4th but if they lose will likely find themselves out of the 5. Can Osborne Park play havoc and trip up Jandakot or will they look at who else they can qualify in their Reserves finals campaign? Jandakot to win, but not by a lot.
Trinity Aquinas (6th) vs. Roleystone (8th) @ Bill Grayden Reserve
Last Time: Roleystone 99 df. Trinity Aquinas 74
Easy mathematics for those private school kids. They have to win to have a chance at finals. Roleystone got a surprise victory over a top 4 side last week, although that was at their auskick oval. Being away from home Roley will probably be doubling up a few boys so won’t be able to maintain the extra legs to get over the line. Trinity to win.
Cockburn Cobras (9th) vs Wembley (10th) @ Davilak Reserve
Last Time: Wembley 77 df. Cobras 66
Game to see who claims the spoon! Both on 2 wins, but Cobras wins have been against quality opponents. I doubt Wembley care too much about this anyway having their team above and team below looking forward to some finals action. Cobras to win and finish the season on a rare high.
Secret Harbour (3rd) vs. Brentwood Booragoon (2nd) @ Rhonda Scarrott Oval
Last Time: Brentwood Booragoon 82 df. Secret Harbour 72
Big game. Should this be called Qualifying Final Round 1? Secret can still retain 2nd place if they get up by enough and that would mean two trips down to secret harbour in two weeks for the dogs. By all reviews the Harbours ground is a bit of a hole, haven’t heard how it holds up in the rain though. Brentwood are getting some real momentum together and won’t let this slip now. Brentwood to give them a spanking so they don’t really feel like turning up the week after!
Southern River (4th) vs. Swan View (1st) @ Sutherlands Park
Last Time: Swan View 102 df. Southern River 36
Southern River better get up on the right side of the bed this week, unlike last week. They are vsing the benchmark team and whoever they play next week won’t be easy at all. The added incentive is that a win means they will definitely play their next game at home. The View have set their position as minor premiers so for them a win will just be to steady the ship and take the momentum of a couple of good wins into the finals campaign. Swan View to win by 6 goals.
