Well, another interesting day ends in the C2 Competition. Valley with the upset of the round beating Warnbro who now seem to be in a bit of a rut. Mosman Park make it 6-in a row over a struggling SNESA. Canning and Quinns continue to be the teams to beat. Bassendean still very up and down and Kenwick nearly shock a very inaccurate Canningvale by playing some old fashioned Sunday League Footy!

Gotta love footy!

Game of two halves again for the Cougar Cubs, but this time different from last week's game against Manning in that they played a fantastic first half followed by a poor second half. We had a couple of the 2 out of our 3 WAFL Colts boys back for the game which was nice - it allowed some of the younger guys that had been doubling up each week to play solely in the League side. Took the foot off the pedal in the second half which is disappointing but we will learn from that. The Royal Colters looked very young, I mean I think they may have had a couple of Under 17's playing - but they had some seriously good players. 4-on the bench for the Royals is a good sign as well for the rest of the season.

Reserves
Canningvale 12.8.80 def by Kenwick 15.6.96
CLOSE - but yet so far. This one hurt for our two's who finally played a good brand of footy - but only for 3 quarters and had the lead for the majority of the day before the Royals and in particular their unorthodox Full-Forward ran over us in the last 1/4. Good game of footy to watch as it was very open and hard running seemed to be the style both teams adopted. Shame for our two's to go down, but as with all teams, if we can get them on the track they might be a bit fitter and might not have been over-ran!

League
Canningvale 12.16.88 def Kenwick 13.4.82
Footy is a funny game and it has it's ways of putting on a good show. Great game to watch. In the first stanza, the Cougars had all of the play only to be wasteful in front of the big-sticks and kick 4.6 - 1.1 by the first siren. The Royals then came out in the second and reminded me of the glory days in the old Sunday League. Hard-nosed, brutal attack on the footy complimented with some silky skills on the outside (in particular a young aboriginal fella who always looked dangerous). From memory, Kenwick had a lead of 5/6 points at the main change. From then on it was a serious game of footy - a yellow card to probably our most important player structurally forced our coach to mix things up. Meanwhile Kenwick kept kicking goals whilst we kept kicking points. As I said, and I am sure Clarko will agree - this was a cracker of a game (especially to watch) and it came down to the last 5-minutes which saw the Cougars kick a couple of unanswered goals to take a 12-point lead only for Kenwick to kick a goal just before the final siren to make it a 6-point game. As I mentioned earlier in the week - Anyone who takes Kenwick lightly will do so at their peril. Best of luck to them as I think they will scare a few more teams in the coming weeks.
Loves kicking goals, passing them off is only an option.

Well it is the second half of the season now and it is shaping up to be a battle for second. Quinns appear unbeatable (although strange things happen) , Canning are a surety of finishing top 3 and Canningvale rely too much on players playing 2 games. Will this hinder the progress of their colts players? Bassendean appear to have lost quite a few players and are very inconsistent. If they want to play finals this year they will have to win next week. Maybe someone from the club can comment on where things are with them.

Mosman Park are on the way up and they will cause headaches for some teams. Swan Valley are also inconsistent, Kenwick they will keep on about the current pace they are on , Manning will be playing C3 next year and SNESA appear to have hit a bad patch.

So I think Quinns will finish on top then in this order the rest.

Canning
Mosman Park
Canningvale
Bassendean
Warnbro
SNESA
Swan Valley
Kenwick
Manning

as per LAG's writeup there were great contests all day.

Colts
Our colts had a full bench for the first time this year which allowed us to try and make the moves we have been trying to get to for the last month. we had 5-6 bottom age colts 3 who were on a Bye from the 17's the others have played all year, another couple hadn't played footy a lot if ever. they all did very well creating some very exciting passages of play. as the runner i got a nice close up view of the cougars players. compared to some of our players they where very large and at times our defence was simply overpowered. but to go with the size they had some very fluid users of the ball who delivered the ball into their forward line very well. we are still looking for our first win but if we keep our numbers up we will break through.

Reserves
the reserves game was a very close contest with the Canningvale boys obviously desperate for a win and pushing our ressies for the whole first half i saw. Nagle the FF kicking a few(yes he is very unorthodox give him a set shot from in front we are iffy. give him a snap from the boundary and it's all good) they seemed to come out firing in the last to take the game. i think if canningvale play like that again they will win a game by the end of the year.

League
i'd like to think it was our defensive pressure that caused all the points from canningvale especially with me being in the backline but some were just innaccuracy. there definitely seemed to be a scoring end to the oval as the team kicking toward the road seemed to win the quarter (with the exception of the last) i don't know if this was the slight breeze or if it is always this way. the physicality of this game was well up on most of our games this year and it certainly seemed to pick the rest of our game up. as was said during the week we needed to get a bit of mud in the guts(not quite so nicely said) and hit the ball hard, i think we did that and it really helps when we get first hand on the ball. some of our players are still missing targets(myself included) and these turnovers are proving costly. we will have a couple of tough sessions this week leading into a game against Quinns. again we had ourselves in a good position to win the game but just couldn't finish the game off we really need to learn to do this as the close games really hurt us.

on a side note it was nice of the Canningvale Canteen to drop a plate of food on our table while we were enjoying a few post game beverages and watching the end of the St kilda V Melbourne game. also a quick question are the demountables as away changerooms a temporary thing or staying because 1 shower caused a bit of a wait to get in.

I can't be entirely sure, but I do believe we are awaiting Council-Approval for an upgrade. Both the Senior and Junior Committee's are working tirelessly to raise the funds. Just a matter of time at the moment I think - we all know how Government's work!
