Mosman Park have now won 5 on the trot whilst Bassendean continue the roller coaster ride. SNESA have dropped off after a good start and down the bottom the relegation fight is on between the Valley, Kenwick and Manning.

Second Annual CVSFC Ladies Day at the Den on Saturday was a hit. Many sore heads on the Sunday morning I am guessing. Was great to see the Manning players staying back for a beer or three as well.

Colts
Canningvale 11.9.75 def Manning 2.3.15
A game of two halves. Manning only down by a goal at half time showing that if they had numbers they would press the better sides in the comp. Unfortunately, they didn't score in the second half. We had a 'goodish' side on the park, still had 6/7 Colts play just League for the weekend, which is a great sign for our future. Currently sitting 2nd on the ladder with a 7-2 record. Swan View the team to beat.

Reserves
Canningvale 6.5.31 lost to Manning 13.13.91
Our two's REALLY wanted this one. Still win-less at the half way stage. Had a couple of blokes come out of retirement for this game (to show off in front of the ladies I am sure) but I have been told Manning had 5/6 of the same types. Our Ressies sitting last on the ladder which is a shame after last year's finals appearance. They will keep fighting.

League
Canningvale 23.18.156 def Manning 3.3.21
After three consecutive losses for us, it was good to get a win on the board. First time in the club history we had lost 3 on the trot and we don't intend that to happen again. Manning obviously struggling. I didn't get to watch much of the game when working on the bar - (keeping the ladies adequately 'quenched'!) Have been told we started to play the footy that had got us in this grade in the first place. Still have Colts doubling up and are at a guess 4/5 players away from full strength. Was good to have a beer with fellow injured forward from Manning as well. Currently sitting 4th on the ladder (6-3) in our first season of C2 - will take that any day of the week. Have the 5-teams below us in the next 5-rounds so it would be nice to get on a roll before we fact the top 3 sides again.

Interesting that you have 6-7 colts playing just league and a few more doubling up which would bring the number to roughly 10. Good on them for doing so. Could be some tough calls come finals time, won't want to be doubling up then.

Very true, we have 6/7 regulars - by that I mean Colts-aged players who choose to play League as a preference. Some of these kids are our better League players as well. One of them has won the past 4/5 BOG's for us in the League. Seriously talented kids!

There are 3/4 guys that double up every week. We try to manage them by giving them a week off every now and then but when we are stuck for numbers they always put their hands up up.

Very young side at the Cougars, we are trying to learn as much as we can as fast as we can - it is great the be challenged by the bigger bodies of Canning and Quinns!

half way point of the year so i'll take a stab at what i think the final ladder will look like.

Quinns
Warnbro
Canning
Canningvale
Mosman Park
Bassendean
Snesa
Kenwick
Swan Valley
Manning

i wouldn't be surprised if Basso take Mossies spot but the seemingly up and down nature of their team will hurt them towards the end IMO. and after seeing both canning and warnbro i still think warnbro are a better side even if they have dropped off a bit. i think canningvale could be the smokey for the finals if their injured players return. if memory serves the last two years one of the two elimination teams have won the grand final in Lynwood and CWP

i think the game next week between Swan valley and SNESA will be key in the relegation battle as if SNESA win they will be at least two games clear of the bottom 3 if Swan Valley get up i'd swap swan valley with SNESA and then to avoid relegation we would have to win at least 3 games. we are still aiming to stay in C2 but have made it a challenge for ourselves

Yep agree with this, bassendean have been a real disappointment this year I expected alot more.
Loves A Goal you must be pretty happy with the way your boys have been able to rise up 2 grades in 2 years and still be a strong side even in c2, judging by the way your colts are going looks as though in a few years you'll have a good spread of players to bolster the reserves as well as he league side

Definitely! I'm not exactly sure what the official goal was for this season, but personally I hoped we would at least be competitive in this grade and push for finals and we are doing that which is great.

In terms of our Reserves - we were very competitive last season but have lost a few good players. These are they guys that had retired (ex Sunday League mostly) and only came back for the one season to help out... But you're right - if we can keep the young guys around it is only going to be a good sign for the future.

Our Colts are nearly all first year Colts (straight from Under 17's last season). They are used to winning and have had very successful junior careers so it is good for them to be tested as well - our aim now is to provide a great club atmosphere and to keep them playing footy which in this day and age everyone knows is very hard!

I am 25 and the 3rd/4th oldest in our League side. As I have mentioned many times - we are learning all the time, we have an average age of about 20 so it is definitely a good thing that we are being tested now, because we are only going to get bigger, stronger and of course better!

Exciting times at the Cougar Den!
