There is a HUGE shortage of Field Umpires for the 2021 season. At this stage, the League is 52 short.

For anyone interested in umpiring this season as a club umpire, umpires need only to have completed the online course which should take no longer than 30 minutes.  www.afl.com.au/umpires/courses

Clubs have been told that they will have to forfeit games if they cannot find umpires - and the season starts in just 12 days!!

for what it's worth, it's in the bi-laws that not providing a field umpire (or boundary/goal umpire) results in a forfeit unless otherwise agreed by both clubs....so there's a bit of scope to avoid forfeits.
