Seriously WAAFL can you please send someone to observe some of the C3 games before half of the season gets cancelled.

I know umpiring is a tough job and they are hard to find, but closing your eyes and pretending that it's all the players/clubs fault clearly isn't working.

It's a passionate game and the abuse towards umpires is often ATROCIOUS, but some of the horrendously BIASED decisions are equally as bad. It's hardly right to blatantly cheat because an umpire has hurt feelings...but this is what's happening and it's to the point where it's boiling over.

Both sides need to give a bit, or this league is headed down the shitter.

Agreed Darth Raider. The umpiring this year has been atrocious compared to all the previous years I've played! Half the blokes seem to be that overweight and unfit that they can't even make it up and down the ground from contest to contest and just stand umpiring from the corridor 30m away from the play.

The WAAFL are obviously directing club umpires to start interpreting new rules this year that the AFL have brought it like the sliding rule, hands in the back and the 7 sec kicking in rule after a behind for example. If AFL umpires can't even interpret these new rules consistently what hope have we got at the amateur level?? I think 99% of us just want them to get back to umpiring the basic rules of the game well and most of us can cop an occasional mistake from an umpire pretty well if the games in good spirits. If umpires clamp down on behind the play incidents early in games by paying freekicks or 50's then a lot of these incidents won't escalate into melees or worse all in brawls. Clubs need to get tougher with repeat offenders and kick them out of the club or notify the WAAFL and get them blacklisted from the league.

And no hope of improving when the likes of you come on here basically accusing umpires of cheating, without providing a grain of proof.

Exactly Ari, clubs need to send thugs and idiots packing. Pretty sure Umpires are there to umpire a game of footy, should not have to be out there to have to deal with snipers and idiots carrying on, which clubs should be nipping in the bud.

finesmaster wrote: From what i saw the nollamarra player was giving the umpire an absolute gob full as they walked off at half time, so the umpire gave him a yellow. The player continued to abuse the umpire so he was given a red card. The player responded by threatening the umpire and standing nose to nose with the umpire and at one stage i thought the player was going to headbutt the umpire thats how close they were.

The nollamarra player then had a crack at a carlisle player where he threw a few punches not sure why and then had a crack at a couple more spectatctors.

This guy should not play footy again this year he is soley responsible for the game being called off.

Agreed Finesmaster, just one correction.

The Nollamara player had a crack at a Carlisle spectator, not player. All Carlisle players and coaching staff were already in the changerooms preparing for the second half when the incident took place. They were oblivious to the fact that the game had been called off until they were preparing to run out again.

Pretty strange decision if that is the case. Surely both teams need to be involved in some kind of melee before a game can be called off. I'm all for umpires taking control of a game but surely the game must go on unless something really serious happens.

Hope people aren't suggesting the umpire or umpiring is to blame for the game being called off.

this guys actions were an absolute disgrace he pretty well threatened to bash anyone who looked at him. He threatened the umpire on more than one occasion.

i think once a player starts swinging at a spectator then there is a very good chance things could escolate into something more serious very quickly. There were lots of wives and kids at the ground and you would hate for any of them to get caught up in something like this. i think it was a wise move calling it off, it could have got very ugly on and off field had it gone on, and that is not the way we want to promote our game.

thanks for the correction piesman next time i will proof read my posts

Hobbsy wrote: I think the WAAFL have a few issues to sort out here that's for sure in relation to games being called off. By sharing the 2 premiership points can cost clubs. Say for instance your fighting for a spot in the finals and your team needs the 4 premiership points to qualify. Your 10 goals up at half time then the opposition decide to go the biff and the games called off. Both clubs share the points and you miss the finals. How fair is that system?

I think who ever is in front at the time the score should count as this promotes some clubs to do the wrong thing. Secondly I recon clubs should wear a very heavy fine if a game is that outta control it has to be canceled. I'd be ashamed if my club lacked that much discipline that games needed to be canceled.

I just don't think it's very good for this great game of ours for matches to be cancelled each week. Come on clubs sort it out!!!!

I think that the score standing irrespective is not as simple as it seems. For example a side kicks the first point of a game it has to win to make finals against a side it is not expected to defeat and then starts a fight. Each situation needs to be assessed on its merits.
Perhaps we need a points system like players now have a maximum number of offences before a life ban. Each yellow and red accumulates points for the club (divided by the number of teams they have). In the case of a game called off then both sides get fines a set number of points. Perhaps this will capture clubs that are repeat offenders. Once they breach the cap they would then be required to make a case to the WAAFL to have their licence continued. Financial fining is not as equatable for all as a points system.
Any comments?

Nothing unusual from Nollamara. Were the same in C4 last year. Its a shame that some players in that club think that they're bigger than the club themselves and ruin it for everybody. Nollamara are a good footy club, they just need to weed out the problems.
