What a weekend for the C2 competition. The Valley proved to be far too strong for struggling Manning. Mossie Park JUST got over the top of winless Kenwick. Bassendean proved to everyone they are still contenders beating the undefeated Warnbro side. Canning also showed our Cougars where they need to be to be contenders in the League and in perhaps the biggest statement all weekend, Quinns smashed SNESA proving they are THE top dog after 6-rounds.

Canningvale vs Canning (& Swan View Colts)
I will get the slight negative out of the way first - abuse towards umpires.
In the Colts game, the Swan View Runner was red carded in the final quarter for abuse. Now, I am under the impression that he was warned prior to half time for 'coaching' on the ground so he had already had the umpires attention but for a 'person of position' and not a player to be straight red carded is obviously a serious matter. He was.. lets say 'colourful' with his comments throughout the game from the bench and the muppet will enjoy the next two from the car when he can make any comments he likes without offending anyone!
There was also an instance in the Reserves game vs Canning where two players were both yellow carded after getting into a scuffle, a good call by the umpires so that both players could cool off. However, the big fella from Canning ended up getting red carded on the way off as he clearly said something to upset the umpire. Now I have played footy for a long time and never have I seen an umpire change his decision. This player will also get a holiday - it's just DUMB!
It was the only blight on a what was otherwise a good day of footy. Looking at other threads it seems that there are issues going on at the moment in other Leagues with behaviours of some players, in previous posts we have commented on the fact that the C2 League should be commended on the way we have conducted ourselves thus far this season. So come on gents, let's lift our games a bit and play in the right spirit. This is amateur footy and we have to remember the umpires are also amateurs.

Back to the important stuff:

Colts (vs Swan View);
Canningvale LOST - 6.5.41 - 13.16.94
Never in my life had I seen so many mullets, rats-tails, tattoo's and flat peak hats amongst a group of young guys.... but boy could the Viewers play footy! They gave our Cougar Cubs are real lesson in skillful and hard running football. As mentioned previously, our Colts are largely 17/18 year olds and have just come out of junior footy. I could see they were hurting after losing this game and I think that is a fantastic sign for our club future. Yes, they had 4/5 of their players out (having to play League because of our injuries/holidays etc..) but you can only comment on the 22-players you put on the park and the Viewers were a rung above!

Reserves;
Canningvale LOST 4.2.26 - 15.17.107
Class, skill, footy nous and experience. All the areas where our boys couldn't match the Canning side. A game played largely in good spirits, our guys stayed with Canning until quarter time but with a few regulars playing League they were always going to be under the pump. Canning Reserves are the best side I have seen so far this season and our boys can hold their heads high for their efforts. As always, they will back next week, suited up ready to go.

League;
Canningvale LOST 12.4.76 - 19.10.124
The first time in the club history (3-years) that all three Cougar sides lost on one day, and the first time the League side has been beaten at the Den. Now I watched the game from the bar so didn't have the best view, but from what I could see, Canning smashed us in the centre and at the clearances all day. They didn't allow us to play our running game and it showed us where we need to be to be a contender this season. Canning had two very slick midfielders in number 2 and number 10 who cut us to pieces, (although number 2 was limited after half time when Coach Jonah gave a run-with job to one of our Colts boys who did an outstanding job) they also had 2 or three massive forwards who used their large size to perfection in some instances. We did have quite a few guys out of our starting 22, but take nothing away from Canning - we received a footy lesson and we will learn from it!

Look forward to the return fixture at the mud-pit nearing the middle of winter!

Good summation there L-A-G, don't think CVPSP will lose 2 in a row very often, and most probably a good thing for your boys to see it don't come easy all the time.

Still think Quinns will be paddocks ahead with players the talent of Gilhome in there side

Agree completely mate, our Colts are 90% first year players with not many of them even able to drink. They have basically been undefeated over their junior careers and to see them hurting after the game like they did was a fantastic sign for the Cougar future.

As for the League, you're spot on. We have only lost 4-games in two years (Beechboro, Ellenbrook twice in 2011 and Armadale in 2012) so it was really good to be taught a footy lesson by the Tigers. With an average age of 19/20 in our side (probably less yesterday), we WILL learn and work hard on the track to maintain the success we have had in our first two seasons!

I never played at a club starting from scratch, but with the right people steering the ship you can set the requirements and the ethos, to have the right culture in the club, and that is not just only about winning.

That's it mate, our Committee and Members do a mountain of work to get the right people around us and our club functions are fantastic at the minute. Best club I have been involved in by a street!

Haha really,from my point of view watching from in between both bench's it was quite clear that your young cubs handled losing yesterday much better than their parents and your coaches who were providing constant whinging whinging,moaning and pleading for free kicks. I think the umpire liked a bit of fan fare and when they continued to whinge he thought he'd give them something to cheer about for the day by sending off our runner. Not quite sure why it was a straight red or that it was even worthy of a yellow.
Our runner has guaranteed us that their was no swearing and or abuse towards the umpire who sent him off which was backed up by our players who were in the vacinity and our umpire actually came up and apologised after the game. Won't save the bloke from having to wear a makini at training on Tuesday though,hopefully it's not too cold because his pecker is average at the best of times.
Never the less,our boys stepped up to the plate after playing a shocking 1st half and in the end had a good win which sets up a top of the table clash next week.
