TOPIC: Greedy Smith - Mental as Anything

Greedy Smith - Mental as Anything 8 months 6 days ago #178535

Pretty sad news.

Saw him with the Mentals live at Subi. Oval in the 80s, always liked them, he was a real character and quite quirky, a bit different.

Had a nice guy feel about him and good for a laugh.

Quite a few 80s icons have been lost now Doc Neeson, Crissie Amplett, and more.

Was that the brilliant Australian Made concert at Subi Oval in 87 Bazza?

Sadly from the great Aussie bands that played at that concert we have now lost most of the bands lead singers-

Michael Hutchence (INXS)
Chrissie Amphlett (Divinyls)
James Freud (Models)
David McComb (The Triffids)
Greedy Smith (Mental As Anything)

Look after yourself Jimmy Barnes & Chris Bailey (The Saints).

Yep ,it was , 87. Big Day.

Think I saw them once again after that, at a pub I think. but not sure.

What ever happened to Australian Music, back then there was so much going on, and now there is SFA.

Well pretty simply mate back then it was real music
rock n roll and that has long disappeared into the modern hip hop poof scene
the doof doof hipster crap that all sounds the same
and we had some great rock bands

When I was in my teens during the 60s my grandparents used to bemoan the modern music, complaining that the great songs, singers and real music of the 40s and 50s - Sinatra, Crosby, Glen Miller, Doris Day etc etc had disappeared, and that bloody rock & roll all sounded the same.

I kept thinking - you silly old farts. ;)
