It’s been two years now that I had my heart operation. I had an aortic bovine valve put into my heart, in other words I had a bit of plastic that has a bit of calf pericardium sowed into my aorta artery. It’s the largest artery in the body. I live a normal life; I take an aspirin & a cholesterol tablet every morning with 1 mg beta blocker. I mentioned to a friend of 40 years to get checked because we don’t know what’s going on under the bonnet, he rang me and thanked me because he got checked and he has heart murmur. He was crying because the doctor told him he was that close to a heart attack, his left anterior descending artery also known as the widow maker if blocked was 70% blocked, he had a stent inserted at Charlies. The reason why I have posted this story is, boys, get checked, go to your doctor and have a check up. 1 Get a calcium score test to see how much plaque is in your arteries, 2, get your bloods done, cholesterol and your balls checked, the finger up your arse isn’t that bad. I’ve had beverage tube up my dick and every artery tapped into, I have had wires stuck into my heart muscle to monitor how the ticker was going. I’m OK, BOYS GET CHECKED.

Wholeheartedly agree Winger....when you hit 40 plus us fellas need to be more proactive with our health and health checks....been 5 years since my TEVAR and carotid bypass for a traumatic undetected aortic aneurysm I sustained in a car crash when I was 18...no CTs back in 1985....so had been walking around with a ticking time bomb for 30 years before I had it detected.....a simple episode of mild chest pain, totally unrelated, made me seek a check up and then a whole can of worms preceded to open.....all sorted now like you Winger....only need a daily aspirin to thin the blood...so definitely agree with your sentiments....sadly too many folk wait till it's too late.....be proactive fellas... the rewards are huge.

Winger...of the 170 thousand odd posts on here that was without doubt the best. I've got a fantastic GP who checks me for everything including skin cancer and I've been detected early for a few things which undetected could have got nasty. Insist your GP tests PSA, skin, cholesterol, full bloods...the whole shootin' match...your life could depend on it.

Yep bronchitis led to a stethoscope which led to moving it to my neck.
Neck?
Bingo heart murmur Aortic valve 80% closed.
Yet no symptoms.
Thank goodness for the best heart facility in WA, The Mount Hospital.
Not to mention the talent of the surgeon.
2 years on and I'm jumping out of my skin and golf handicap the lowest it has ever been.
I will never willingly change my GP.
Thank you Dr Burger.

Well done winger, good to hear you’re going well. Stories like yours are a good wake up call.
I recently had a mad dash into Swan Districts hospital at 11.30 pm, then 3 days in hospital. All worth it, because I have been cleared of everything except for inflammation of the heart lining. I too now, push the go to the doc barrow.
Well done mate.

Here here Winger, too many blokes just ignore the signs or dont go for regular check-ups. My nephew needed a kidney transplant, his old man, my bro was ready to donate but during the matching process they detected a high PSA reading, a red flag for prostate issues, the biopsy confirmed early stages of prostate cancer, so he marched my other brother and I off to the doc's and we both had the same, me at 46, thats 19 years ago, all 3 of us had the thing removed and are fit and well, science & chemistry takes care of the side effects small price to pay for being alive. Mine was particularly aggressive and the spesh said I would have been cactus by 52, so go and at least get the blood check and the poke and get piece of mind or at worst early detection.

My last word on this. 12 months ago I thought any heart problems would never happen to me. I’m really into genealogy and no one in my family has had any recorded problems. But as my spec said, someone has to be number one. I’m number one.

EDTA chelation therapy for the cardiovascular system, look it up. Not cheap but have spoken to numerous people who should be dead decades ago haha Bazza will love that. A few good docs in Perth do it
