Waste of time a bit like AFLW.

I think people need to lighten up a bit. I can see many advantages to this format. Being a shortened game requiring less participants and can be played on a soccer/rugby pitch makes it easier to play anywhere anytime which makes it easier to be played anywhere in the world and domestically sports like touch rugby, mixed netball, indoor cricket and soccer are games that are played recreationally or socially after work or during lunch breaks.

This format gives our game a chance to tap into those markets.

I only watched a bit of it and it’s not for me. I won’t knock it though - to each, their own. I love the big bash, but many here don’t. AFLX just gives us another choice.

The actual game reminded me of basketball on a soccer field.

It's another form of the game that sucks up more media and sponsorship dollars, which negatively impacts the state leagues. And the looming national AFL reserves comp coming up in a year or 2 will soak up more media and sponsors dollars. What will a potential sponsor look at, a struggling state based comp or a nationally televised 2nd tier AFL comp. Another nail in the coffin?

Maybe play the games as a weekend carnival with a state of origin type format? The current teams like Rampage, Deadly and Flyers are of no interest to me but I might be tempted to watch if a WA team was playing a Victorian or SA State of origin team?
This concept might engage the players a bit more as well.

Captain's scoring double points.On a ground that far to small even with the smaller teams.Maby they should consider using tier 2 players.Instead of trying to play the best+ giving away 20,000 free tickets.Just play a preseason state of origin carnival every 3 years.
