Two Melbourne clubs playing under the roof at Etihad Stadium, reigning premiers Richmond versus one of the form teams of the competition and the joint looks half full. Fremantle v listless St Kilda last night against an interstate team with one of the smallest followings and around 42,000 turned up. So much for Eddie's throw away line "All roads lead to Melbourne" after the AFL (VFL) signed an agreement to extend the MCG rights to hold the GF until 2057. What a joke.

Tbh St Kilda don't have a bad following here, and its hardly a surprise that Carlton who are going like a busted wheel v Essendon who are hardly on fire attracted a small crowd. That game played at Windy Hill or Princess Park would of attracted 12,000 , if that - if they were similarly placed.

Unusually small crowd for a Richmond game, the Tiger Army would be saving their pennies for a Saturday game at the G as you would.
How about the vast empty orange grandstands at the Gws game, gee how's that small investment by the Afl going? Far out it was second versus third or something on a Saturday arvo.

Guess it depends what you measure the investment on. AFL may well be the most watched sport , but it's on the back of the traditional Southern states viewing figures - QLD and NSW figures are abysmal. However having teams in these states still does wonders for their overall tv deal.

Yeah , hardly surprising given both Qld sides are basket cases.
