Yep watched, thought all speeches very good, actually prefer the Villers service to the Gallipoli one.

The French PM's speech at the dawn service was just brilliant. I'm not sure who wrote it for him but they really nailed it.

The two AIFs were certainly very unique they being made up entirely of volunters, a fact this country should be proud of indeed. The point that the French PM missed in his speech was that it was their war: some of those men would have gone to the moon to fight for Engalnd if they had been asked to do so by the Australian and imperial authorities.

Proof of that, can be seen, for example, in the recruitment for the second AIF. Men joinned slowly up until the fall of France, June 1940; once it became clear, that the UK could actually lose the war with the Germans in Paris, 40,000 men joinned the second AIF that month. Rememmbe, too, that because of the memeory of the first AIF, those men volunterred in the full knowledge of the horrors they would likely face in battle.
