Back in the early 1980's the Wafl comp held a carnival over a 2 day weekend. Two quarters 10 minutes each way.All sides played against each other. From memory 1982+1983.This came to my attention after watching the AFLX.
With a new flash stadium and noone using it today or yesterday..And probably available the next few weeks. With the women's game pulling 35,000 last week.WAFC might of missed an opportunity to give the 9 Wafl clubs a go at the new stadium. With some decent crowds attending.

Sounds like a good idea - East Fremantle would then get to defend their Emu Export Cup title that they have held for 35 years.

Remember that vividly, wasn't a pre season comp but after about 7 games into the season, 1983 I believe. Bizarre timing, was never repeated. Make a gerat pre season idea...perhaps AFLX for the WAFL at Perth oval

Just goes to show back in the day the WAFL was light years ahead of the game over the VFL/AFL we had the lightning carnivals back in the early 80s, developed & introduced the 25m & 50m line in the early 80s, developed & introduced the State Of Origin concept in the mid 70s.....unfortunately tho they eventually sold out!

BH: bang on again.

In 1982, Subi kicked 3.17 to defeat EF 3.3 in a rare win for the season

BH the elimination final last year Swans v West Perth.Shows that the fans will support Wafl footy as long as it doesn't clash with AFL Fixtures. Plus everyone wants to have a look at Optus Stadium. All West Aussies have a stake in that as taxpayers.Don't know about yourself but lightning carnival better than the AFLX concept.
