  • The VFL is not the AFL

Just left the Paddington Hotel in Mt Hawthorn where I met the owner and major sponsor of Subiaco Football Club. He tells me he is on "the commission" (I assumed the WA Football commission) and he blatantly said that he is pushing for Perth to join forces with WC. Very disappointing and someone ought to talk to him. He was disappointingly adamant that it is the only way to go.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

He has even tried to sign Subi up to it in the past. It is Randall and he is the boss at the WA Football Commission.

As an East Perth supporter wanting to get rid of the alignment, I would hate to see the Perth FC go down that path.
But the WAFC have already said that some unpopular decisions were going to have to be made.
And when you remember that West Coast are now at Lathlain, it is possible that could be one of the unpopular decisions.

Also, West Coast have previously stated that their preference is for a "stand-alone" team in the WAFL. And with Fremantle already re-aligning with Peel, like it or not, I think that could be the way to go so no other WAFL team is cursed.

Can only happen two ways ... 1. Voluntarily, but would need PFC members approval which wont happen, or, 2. Blackmail via a threat by WAFC to pull the club's licence and hand it to WCE. If the latter occurred PFC would survive as an amateur club only.
IMHO.

Randell is clearly a man satisfied with a dysfunctional WAFL competition. The bloke wouldn't know the meaning of the word COMPETITION and he is clearly unfit to be on the commission let alone be the "boss".
Get on your bike.

smokey, at East Perth, we had a "Special Meeting" at which time we were told that we were aligned. We were given no choice.

Hopefully, your Members would have a say, but.........

Depends on the provisions of the club's constitution. I believe that the PFC constitution has this covered.
Are we talking "alignment" or "merger" here ? The subject is Perth West Coast Merge

It's my understanding Randall is one of 8 voluntary commissioners and is certainly not the "boss". I think it's very poor indeed that he's publicly making his views known if that's how it came out. In my view, the best option is for WCE to have a stand alone team in the WAFL if they want to keep their players together. It would make the WAFL a 10 team comp and the season would be 18 rounds with everyone playing each other twice which is Channel 7's preference.

Totally agree BC. A 10 club competition is the common sense way to go. Even "Blind Freddie" can see that.

And, Randall is exceeding his authority as a WAFC Commisioner IMO in making provocative public statements. Absolutely poor form.

Let's face it it's the only way Perth are going to get to that last day in September.
