With Kelmscott forfeiting league and reserves the last two weeks this is surely the end for them as a higher grade club if not for good. If they don't try and merge with someone like Armadale then I think it is all over for this once proud club. Be interesting to see if they even field a side for the rest of the season but I doubt it as the spending splurge has come to an end methinks!

Wow!

First club I'm aware of who has forfeited a league match...where have their numbers gone after starting the season with League Reserves and Colts?

If they forfeit their League side for the rest of the season under the by-laws does that not prevent them from nominating a League team in any grade next year? They are already unable to nominate a reserves or colts.

What benefit would there to another club merging with Kelmscott? The Kelmscott players will be looking for other clubs to play at next year anyway so other clubs in the area will benefit. You'd suspect that by the end of the year Kelmscotts finances will be a mess with no bar income and WAAFL fines accumulating with every forfeit.

How does Kelmscott forfeiting their league team effect the B Grade and finals positions or relegation?

Good questions Red Legs.
With Kelmscott barred from C1 next year will the league still bring up two teams from C2 or maybe three? It certainly creates a problem that flows down through all lower grades.

WAAFL By-Law 14.8 states - At any time during a season, if a club reasonably considers that it is unlikely to be able to field a team during the remainder of the season it may notify the WAAFL that it withdraws that team from the competition in which that team participates. A team which has been withdrawn from a competition under this by-law is not permitted to re-enter the competition in that season.

Be interesting to know if Kelmscott have done this for their League and Reserves?

I hope they can get it together for the last 3 weeks of the season, including the round 18 game against Maddington. We already know its the final game for Maddington, but the way things are going it may be the last one for Kelmscott too.
The game is fixtured for August 12 at Maddington's home ground Harmony Fields. If Kelmscott are finished for the year, then Maddington's last game as a club will be round 17 against Collegians at Dalkeith Oval.
I hope I'm wrong about Kelmscott. Although I've followed Armadale since 1980 I hate to see what is happening to clubs such as Kelmscott and Maddington.

Thanks Grassy. I was hoping to head out to Maddington for the 2nd half on August 12 after attending Armadale's Past Players an Official's Day at Gwynne Park.
