A couple of other JKW classic quips over the years were-

When asked who was the best player he had ever seen play was he remarked-
"I look at him every morning in the mirror when I have a shave"

"The best thing to ever come out of Fremantle was the Stirling Hwy"

"I was so good a player blind people used to come to EP training just to hear me kick"

His greatest regret from his footy career was-
"Not being able to sit in the grandstand every week to watch myself play" :-D

There's only two types of players son, those that played for east Perth and those that wished they did...

Great memories of JK Watts aka "Wattsie". So many to be honest where do you start? Wattsie was everywhere. As a kid growing up in the 70's I remember him on Channel 7 on a Friday night I think it was at the end of the sport where he would give a wrap and his tips for the weekend in a most colourful way and finish with a thumbs up and "See ya folks"

Then there was the Friday football show (what was it called?) that would be played on 6PM at about 8am on Saturday morning. That was a non negotiable to start my weekend and I was pissed off if I woke up late and missed it.

Later as a young adult I would go to those football forums on a Friday lunchtime at the Cascades Tavern in Maylands (didn't know at the time it was owned by JK himself. And of course that show would move around to other venues and football clubs. He entertained everyone and the old girls with the blue rinse loved him.

Then there was Wattsie and Martin who practically invented entertaining breakfast radio. Who can forget Billy Coke Bottle who used to be a regular on the Watts and Martin show? It was an absolute scream and sadly the young ones today are missing out because they are sanitised from that type of humour and I reckon our Aboriginals laughed as much as we did.

He was one of a kind John K Watts and there will never be another. Thank you for your entertainment you provided me as kid and young adult. Rest in Peace Wattsie!
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

Good words everyone. Wattsie was a classic.
The thing that pisses me off a bit is that if he was a Victorian he would have been held in higher esteem than Lou Richards and many other "characters". It's just another example of how everything Victorian is considered above all other states in regards to Aussie rules. Wattsie was part of our state football fabric and should be acknowledged as such. As DD said, him and Bazza Martin were also probably the forerunners of comedy / breakfast radio.

Any talk of a State funeral considering the impact Wattsie had in WA across a number of areas?

As Cess mentioned if JK was a Vic his unfortunate passing would be national headlines.
