DD, if Barnett didn't use the credit card we would not have a stadium, an Elizabeth quay, a Perth Arena,a new children's hospital, a Fiona Stanley or a new Swan hospital etc etc.
For too long during the Gallup, Carpenter years nothing happend in Perth. We were just drifting along as the lazy hollow...boring, colorless and dull.

Grassy, I like your suggestion. Big Mac Stadium (not McDonald) sounds good but won't happen. Perhaps the Labor Party would like Brian Burke Stadium.

Smokey first of all Perth Arena was the former Labor government initiative as was Fiona Stanley Hospital. Remember also the previous Labor government didn't get the luxury of the peak of the boom. The new stadium had to be done and will pay for itself in good time but Elizabeth Quay was a rush job, more thought should have been put into the impact on traffic flow before a shovel was turned. Cutting off Riverside drive is a disaster.

The opening of Fiona Stanley was a disaster on his watch because he wanted to privatise many of it's operations handing over control to amateurs.

But he approved massive salary rises for government beauracrats his own staff, millions wasted on so called expert consultants and overseas junkets for his ministers which never materialised into anything and then there is the Roe 8 obliteration of tax payers money so close to an election. He acted like a spiteful little Johnny knowing it was someone else's turn to bat he decided I'm going to break this bat for the next batter in.

Absolute cannibalism of tax payers money.

Well Sneakers head popped up on Ch 7 news in a well orchestrated political promotion all about the "wonders" of Rockingham. Must be the most self serving blatantly political piece of so called journalism in the history of TV. I loved the bit where Sneakers claims he will stay put in Rocky and "put up" with the 90+min return drive to work. I could put up with it as well if I went to work in a tax payer funded limo, serviced by tax payers using tax payer funded fuel!! Complete political wankfest.

Did someone mention Dixie Marshall?

Good to see that the "born to rule" mentality of the Liberal Party and its supporters is still as strong as when the OBSTRUCTIONIST SENATE lead by the Liberals caused a double dissolution in 1974 and an OBSTRUCTIONIST SENATE failed to vote on the Federal budget in 1975. And let's not forget the failure of the Liberal Party to support their election promise of an ETS post the 2007 election.

Hmmm! Once upon a time there was a labor PM Kevin Rudd who once called climate change “the greatest moral, economic and social challenge of our time”. Despite his fiery rhetoric, didn't he fail to support any action for climate change during his tenure. Ooops! I forgot the "pink batt" disaster! Maybe that was his centre piece action on climate change? I guess you can view history from your own perspective but the reality is that governments of all persuasions suffer obstructionist oppositions.

Custodian what an absolute joke. Rudd MOST ASSUREDLY legislated for an ETS. The ETS legislation was DEFEATED in the Senate DESPITE Howard and the Liberals campaigning in the 2007 electionin SUPPORT OF AN ETS. I wonder why the Liberals why Cormann, Cash et al didn't support the MANDATE afforded to the Labor Party on winning the 2007 election. Could it be the "born to rule" mentality of the Liberals NEVER accept that they lost. Not one Liberal Party member or National Party member should complain about the Senate.

As to my perspective that would be reality vis a vis 1974, 1975 and 2007.

Swan 42: don't forget the greens: they votted against Rudd's legislation in spite of being an environmentalist party. In the UK, they have the Salisbury Convention, agreed by Churchill and Attlee, that the House of Lords's will not block the second and third reading of any legilation, the spirit of which, had been put to to the people at a general election. Perhaps we should follow suit.

AR the Greens don't come into the discussion of why the Liberals DID NOT SUPPORT the duly elected Government's MANDATE; particularly given the FACT that the Liberals campaigned on an ETS. The House of Lords aren't elected compared to the Senate.

Under your proposal we would have a GST on fresh fruit and vegetables.

Swan42: Out of interest, what did you think of the ALP's decision to let through the legislation which repealled the carbon tax?
