maybe so Baz but where would we hold swimming, athletics, indoor events at a standard to accommodate a major international competition? where would we accommodate the athletes? how could we afford to upgrade existing competition infrastructure given these sort of events generally run at a loss?

Would be good thing to have local, but i think we lack the infrastructure. And only 5 years away isnt much time to get it done.

We have the Stadium
We have Mt Claremont Pools held world champs there
We have State Hockey Complex
Perth Area for Gymnastics etc
Mt Claremont SuperDome for Netball
Perth Oval for Rugby 7s
Midland Velodrome

Some great venues mostly in place.

Village, could be put together and flogged off after as housing units.

with the exception of the new stadium, none of the complexes you've mentioned are world standard...mind you, the commonwealth games is hardly world standard these days either....

I would of thought Perth Arena was right up there. Regardless "world standard" is relative, most if not all cities these days recycle venues, for example - if a venue is good enough to host a national soccer league and Western Force surely it would be fine for a 5 days Rugby 7s comp.

Mosman Park Bowling Club has had national champs there, its pretty much one of the best located clubs in the world view wise!

We could do it easy tbh.

Glasgow had far inferior infrastructure.

Given that Perth Oval has recently hosted the Socceroos in a World Cup Qualifier it surely must be world class enough. The Perth Oval pitch is actually considered possibly the best (rectangular stadium) in Australia.

My knowledge of the velodrome is nil, and the hockey complex doesn't seat too many.. but I don't think we'd be too far off it.

State Hockey Centre can easily been expanded with temp seating, hosted national championships and internationals in the past.

Velodrome in Midland not bad just needs a spruce up.
