This election result will be reverberating right through the corridors of Canberra. If Turncoat doesn't fix this GST inbalance and doesn't redistribute the funds made available for Roe 8 to Labor for their Metronet plans, the coalition government will pay a heavy price at the next federal election in two years time.

Labor has been given a clear mandate to scrap Roe 8 and build Metronet no ifs buts or maybes.

the only problem with the GST distribution is the 3 year lag in including royalties and the fact that other forms of revenue in the eastern states such as gambling taxes are not included. WA enjoyed a much higher share of GST a few years ago during the mining boom when the Libs also received increased iron ore royalties, so Barney has a fair bit to answer for in not budgeting for the lean times which were predictable ...fast forward and now we're getting less from mining and a lower GST share due to the 3 year lag. the federal government needs to place a floor in the amount of GST any state can receive, make the royalty calculation contemporaneous and include other forms of revenue such as gambling taxes so that we're all on a level playing field.

Whoever signed off on that agreement should be bent over and have the word STUPID branded on their arse.

probably an agreement between all states and the Feds back in 2000 I'd suggest.

Personally, I think there is no way Libs can hold onto power federally in 2yrs. Turnbull is like a Zombie, staggering around doing sfa, on WA Election Day he hits the piss with two outback knobs in Qld.
