Yep see you Col. As predicted a landslide defeat. Many years dedicated to public service in this state. Loved many things you have achieved the Stadium EQ hospitals and many other things, but mate time was up, Roe 8 a bad move late in your term. Lost Bicton a telling decision on that move.
Im probably heading to a by election soon.

Btw RIP Bill Leak.

Over 8 years is a pretty good run. Its important to let the Union bosses run the state for a short stint every 3rd or 4th election just to remind everyone why WA is a Liberal state. Colin's time had expired long ago, now hopefully there will be a fresh face that can step up in a few years and firstly repair the Union bosses damage and then take our state forward for another 2 or 3 stints like Colin did.

I am no blueblood Liberal supporter by any means (far from it) but I would like to say thank you to Colin for building WA the brand new stadium in the rightful greenfields location that should have been done decades ago, none of this pathetic rebuild in that tired old landlocked Subiaco location that had long seen its day for 40k fans let alone 60k+ attendances and finally put our great city on the world stage for events in the coming era.
Also thanks for building the enormously popular Elizabeth Quay precinct which also was long overdue in that boring grassed Esplanade waste of space on the city/river doorstop, when finished it will be akin to Darling Harbour in Sydney.
Hopefully when finished the new Yagan Square can also be our equivalent to Federation Square in Melbourne which is another popular tourist attraction and outdoor events venue.
He may have polarised opinion but Colin can always look back with pride on these future WA/Perth icons for many years to come and the change in our great city from what some would term dullsville to delightsville.

I guess everyone has a theory on the result. Seems to me that Col lost the election with a couple of poor decisions rather than alp winning it. Still, all the Libs have to do is get a bit of bloodletting done, elect a strong leader and work into the next election. Everyone will be sick of the Labour Party by then.

Colin losing it rather than winning it ain't what most mainstream experts across, Sky news, 6PR, ABC and ex political heavyweights from both sides are saying. It wasn't just a win it was a shellacking and shows how on the nose they were and that extends Federally too where they are in complete disarray.
All this rubbish about State elections being on State issues etc isn't true, the average punter, and thats the majority see them as one in the same. The penalty rates issue has hurt the Libs desperately too and this will be felt across the country because the majority see it as wrong and don't want it.

Have to admit I was all for the plan of building the stadium in Subi but Colin was right on that one - especially as one forgets what a pain in the butt Subi Council is over night games etc. They don't deserve the stadium in their backyard.

Still haven't been to Elizabeth Quay, so no comment, but the issue with the water playground was typical of his approach to things. Yes he got some stuff done but too much money and not enough commonsense was often deployed. And giving Troy Buswell transport, who took the same approach, is probably why millions was spent on the concept of Max lightrail while nothing of it came to fruition.

It was irresponsible of him to begin Roe 8 prior to the election. Not a fan simply because I think that money is better spent elsewhere at present. If we didn't have the gst issues I may feel different but there's the right time for such projects and it is not now. Assuming Macgowan follows through and cancels it then more money down the toilet.

I think Colin's legacy could well depend on how well the new government manages the hole this state is in at present. If we cop 4 years of s**t because there's no money to be spent on things and the economy does not pick up I don't think the public will be appeased by the shiny new things he built.

The penalty rates issue is a Bill Drive-Text-Crash Shorten policy. It is an inconvenient truth for the Labor Party that in 2013 Bill Shorten as Workplace Relations Minister amended the Fair Work Act to specifically require the Fair Work Commission to review penalty rates as part of the four yearly review process.

I have a sneaking suspicion that these union construction sites will have no further problems now that the election is over. No more mysterious lead, no more union fabricated drama.
