With yet another Sydney Test being decimated by rain and likewise in Melbourne just concluded is it time to give Perth & Adelaide these 2 Test matches for a change?
With virtually no threat of rain ever interrupting a sessions play in either WA or SA at this time of year let alone the 2 or 3 days that happens to be lost in Sydney & Melbourne annually.
And don't believe the hullabaloo about keeping tradition as these Tests haven't always been played at those particular times of the year in fact Boxing Day was previously reserved for Sheffield Shield fixtures and the New Year for one day internationals including the Michael Bevan last ball boundary off Roger Harper only in 1996!

Didn't the New Years Test always start on New Years Day public holiday?

Test match full days lost to rain since 1877-

Perth- 0
Hobart- 2
Adelaide- 2
Melbourne- 6 (not including 1971 which was abandoned and replaced by a One Day International)
Brisbane- 8
Sydney- 24

This doesnt include all the lost sessions or half days lost to rain either.
I rest my case!

Mate those stats probably would be even worse if Melbourne and Sydney played tests late spring and early summer instead of mid summer....so do you want more days lost to rain in those parts?....anyhow who in fark is gonna watch test matches in 38 - 40 degrees heat if Perth or Adelaide staged them?....or even play in them?....

It is what is.....move on me thinks...."rest my case"....didnt realise you were Judge Judy mate ;)

Why was the Perth Cup run on New Years Eve this year? I knew they were thinking of making the event 3200 metres again but this didn't happen.

No idea, but think they are trying something different, the Summer carnival has been a shambles ever since they moved Railways Stakes day, just not the same build up.
