Has anyone been following this controversy over soccer, history and politics between FIFA and the British soccer associations? The upshot is that the old enemies -- England and Scotland --- are going to play a friendly on Armistice Day; conscious of the day, both the English and Scottish associations had asked permission to wear black arm bands and the poppy. The request has been denied on the grounds that FIFA wants to avoid 'politics' in sport. Ostensiblly, FIFIA's position appears reasonable, until, one realises that FIFA has allowed the Irish to remember the Eater Rebellion. In fact FIFA allows Celtic to fly the Irish flag at every European tie the club plays in Glasgow -- in spite of it being provocative and a foreign flag.

Last I read, both associations are planning to go ahead anyway
