I think Jameka is the only Aussie horse in the field from what I hear?
Am having an each way bet on 1 Big Orange and 17 Almandin.
Normally do not punt on the horses but usually have a flutter on the Melbourne Cup.

??? Yes only one of the horses in this years Cup may have been bred in Australia but that is hardly a new phenomenon it has been happening for many years now.
As Grassy quite rightly pointed out most of the horses bred here are sprinters or milers because owners want an early payday on their large investments simply 2yo never & 3yo rarely race over 2000m.
The Melbourne Cup is actually a world famous race now like the English Derby, Kentucky Derby, Japan Cup etc hence why so many prominent overseas trainers are keen to send their stayers out here to win it.
But having said all that there are still 15 of the runners in this years Cup that are trained in either Australia or NZ.

I backed 3rd horse.. Winner was 3rd to derby winner at group level in autumn carnival Sydney.. Won the hard way but upset the back runners..
