agree SS...you could probably get the same info from the telephone White Pages...so not sure what all the fuss was about either.

Who's mentioned an Australia card??

Anyway we already have an equivalent via credit cards and medicare cards so again why the fuss, we have all already parted with our rights to privacy and all by our own choice.

Im a very pro ABS and Census person and don't buy into the Nick X or Greens privacy BS, however at the very least I would of expected the new system to work, there were problems flagged early and it was obvious it was going to be a shambles.

The issue now is, how many people will bother going back and submitting failed applications? my bet is as days pass most people won't bother - will the failed info be saved and will log in and passwords still work , basically ABS will have a half arsed census that's not worth processing.

Must admit there seemed to be quite a few extra questions there that had me wondering, have they always wanted to know work place address??
or if I cared for a disabled person??

Fact is you ATO Tax returns contain more info so no big deal.

BC wrote: I did mine yesterday afternoon with no probs whatsoever. also Bazza I see you mentioned MyGov and MyTax for doing tax returns...I also found that much easier than e-Tax and had no problems with that either.

You must of got in early , as there are 10 Million failed submissions at least.

MyTax is crap

1. Requires a mygov log in - every year I only use MyGov at tax time and every year my id and passwork have expired meaning a whole new registration.
2. Once you go through the ASIO like obstacle course to set that up and then link up with a similar registration system on mytax you then come through to the new lodgement pages.
3. Although it retains some info via TFN , group cert etc, it fails to roll over quite a lot of other, ie, investment properties etc. Just did not seem as good as past system.
4.Seems to lack the Note Up ability on rulings - maybe that is there but navigation although they have simplified pages seems a bit bare compared to old forms.

Only just logged on after blowing my top with Census , so wil have another look at it in a couple of days, with a calmer mindset!

Apparently malicious attacks by overseas hackers prompted an embarrassing shutdown of the online census on Tuesday. Serious questions would now need to be asked as to why the census needs completing online? When in previous years the paper form has worked well. The federal government is trying to reassure people the site has not been hacked. After the site was shut down, thousands of people who telephoned the bureau for an explanation were apparently told by a recorded message to call back Wednesday. Calls to the 1300 help number, wouldn't access a real person, it seems?
Fair to say it's a complete shambles and the worst run census in the country's history.
Thanks god some of us had the paper version

Agree WAG,

I think the Minister is saying it wasn't hacked and was just an over load

But the Boss of ABS is saying it was a Hack so was shut down.

I'm starting to wonder what really happened.

My guess is the entire thing will be aborted and we will do another one next year.

Agree the handling of the Census has been a disaster but the actual census itself and the questions contained are totally innocuous.

Why ask where we work? - To gather data on how far the Australian worker travels to and from work.

Are you caring for a disabled person? - To determine how much home care is being done compared to institutional care.
