Talking of Olympic memories, I remember footage I saw maybe 40 years ago. It was the women's marathon if I remember right. The race had been won, but 1 woman hadn't reached the line. As she entered the stadium she looked like a rubber and rag doll that was trying to walk. She was out on her feet and anyone else would have collapsed from exhaustion. The whole stadium stood and were cheering and roaring. They cheered her all the way to the line. Very emotional footage. Gee I wish I could remember which Olympics, I've Googled it several times, but can't find it.

Ripper stuff gt. I thought the lady may have been Swedish, but Swiss sounds right. So much for my memory - not as far back as I thought. Thanks very much for that, I appreciate it. I'm off to Google :cheer:

Freezin wrote: Gee that swim by Chalmers will go down in the history books as one of the best ever......7th at the turn.....18 yrs old and coming home like a train......amazing win.......Groves swim was truly gutsy.......went out hard and was paying the price but came back hard in the last 20.....can think of a few cricketers looking at that video and learning a few lessons about control and courage!

Reckon McEvoy will be regretting pulling out of the 200m relay last night for the 100m.....his presence surely would of secured a bronze for the team.....looks out of sorts and I dont fancy his chances in the 50m sprint.....is Magnussen swimming in the 50?......

Kyle Chalmers has a decent footy pedigree to being the son of Brett Chalmers a former Port Adelaide Magpie Premiership player in the SANFL & an Adelaide Crows & Port Power player in the AFL.
Interesting also to see a couple of the girls on the Aus swim team in Blair Evans & Briana Throssell are the GF's of WAFL players Kody Manning & Aiden Tropiano as well.
I wouldnt be surprised if Chalmers had another crack at playing footy again some time down the track but sheesh can the boy swim an incredible finishing burst.

Well there you go mate.
Nothing to lose really and can always go back to swimming if it doesnt work out with footy sheesh the next Olympics is still 4 years away.
I did hear his old man being interviewed after the race saying he was having a kick of the footy in the athletes village before his race.

Good pick up LH.
John Seebohm was a very good player at Glenelg during their mid 80s halcyon period with players the calibre of the Kernahan brothers Stephen & David, Tony McGuinness, David Marshall, Peter Carey, Chris McDermott, Ross Gibbs et al coached by the legendary Graham Cornes.
I can't remember if Seebohm played any state games for SA but I can recall another fella with a Germanic name John Schneibichler playing against WA.

Talking of unbelievable swims.Joseph Schooling won Gold for Singapore in the men's 100 m Butterfly.A triple finish for 2nd which included Phelps in his final Olympic swim.Stand corrected but think it's Singapores first modern Olympic Gold medal.
