Nice work La Hincha. The Albatross was a star but took on a heavy work load as mentioned in the clip.It took a world record from the young Aussie to beat him.Noticed the Americans edited Laurie Lawrence celebrations  :cheer:

They used to play these brilliant series, Olympic Moments in the lead up to the Olympic Games, they covered all the Olympics from 40s through to 70s, all the great Athletes ,Marathons, swimmers etc, The Flying Fins featured big time, as did all the Africans , it had a very dramatic American narrator who captured all the emotion, drama , tragedy and pathos of these great events.

It really set the scene for the games in the lead up. I've always loved the OG.

Shell used to issue a special Olympic Passport , every time the old man got fuel you went in and collected a famous Athletes stamp , it changed each week. I think that was around the time of Munich. Which was a tragic drama in itself.

largely a load of nationalistic twaddle, one which has rarely been level because of the eastern block.

Best memory was watching all the German girls carrying the country placards in the 1972 Olympic opening ceremony.

Can’t beat long legs and a pair of white shorts on a good looking lass.

From the Aussie point of view the Sydney 4 by 100 relay. The Americans only been beaten in this race two times in history.Only once in the Olympics at Sydney.Atlanta.. 1996 Kieren Perkins 1500m scraped into lane 8 and smashed them in the final B)
Ian Thorp Athens 20004 in 200m freestyle after losing to P Vadahuganban in Sydney. That other bloke in the Athens 200f final M Phelps.
Dawn Fraser 56 and 60 in Tokyo. And stole the Olympic flag :woohoo: Shane Gould as teenager in Munich 72 with 3 Golds.Still spoken about today by the American swim team USA.

Gee that swim by Chalmers will go down in the history books as one of the best ever......7th at the turn.....18 yrs old and coming home like a train......amazing win.......Groves swim was truly gutsy.......went out hard and was paying the price but came back hard in the last 20.....can think of a few cricketers looking at that video and learning a few lessons about control and courage!

Reckon McEvoy will be regretting pulling out of the 200m relay last night for the 100m.....his presence surely would of secured a bronze for the team.....looks out of sorts and I dont fancy his chances in the 50m sprint.....is Magnussen swimming in the 50?......

He qualified and is over there Freeze and will be wanting to put London behind him.Dont know if you get Grandstand in NZ freeze. Gérard Whatley call of the Charlmers win was outstanding.
The girls team looks really strong and Tokyo looks even better with the large number of teenagers having there 1st Olympic swim.
