I guess each individual has to weight up what this government has achieved as opposed to what it has cost. The Perth Gateway, Elizabeth Quay, the new stadium, Fiona Stanley, the Childrens Hospital, Midland Hospital, airport access highways and so on will help to make Perth a world class city but it has also driven us deep into debt. Not all debt is bad if it's used for infrastructure and services but I also think this government could have done a lot better given the once in a generation mining boom. Come election time Barnett and co will point to the things they have got done over the journey so I'm not convinced they'll get the spanking some on here are predicting...a swing to the opposition certainly, but I don't think it'll be carnage when you look at what Labor has to offer as a replacement.

I have to disagree with you a/man. For starters that's why we often have the opposition party in power in states compared to the federal government. Also, Malcolm's tax cuts for big business probably appealed to businesses in WA. The state election will be based on completely different issues like public transport, the states debt, privatization and the character of each leader.

You mean the ones who pay creative accountants to set up family trusts and groups of companies to spread the revenue around to minimize their tax? Yeh those ones. Lets reward them further with another tax cut because we know they will immediately advertise for an extra two staff. Turnbull is trying to sell candy and the voters aren't buying it.

Well I would suggest to you BC that those with the "acumen" as you put it also suffer from tunnel vision. Their focus is on themselves and not the broader population and future generations who struggle to afford a roof over their heads and that results in guess what? More demand on the government to provide public housing that is affordable. And WHO ultimately is paying for that?

Theres no doubt the Barnett Government is tied.But lets be fair there hands are tied.
WA is down 4.7 Billion on Gst this year.That four thousand seven hundred million.dollars.Iron Ore royalties doest deliver the state government 20% of that lost revenue.

Political discussions a fraught with danger but there is some need for opinions.

I listened to labours Treasury spokesman sometime ago on the ABC and he was talking abt the debt, deficit and other interesting things, one of which was his opinion of Buswell as a Treasurer (not the other crap).

He said without reservation that the issue with the Iron ore priice was that TB was telling Barnett that it would god down and they could not continue to bank on $100 per tonne or even $75 per. Barnett and Nahan both said no and they budgeted on an exorbitant level and created the black hole we have now.

Someone commented on the things the member for Cottesloe has built. Yes he has done a lot of things but a Hospital that was rushed so he could look good, a hole in the ground that has been lambasted on international folk that have credibility in the areas train tracks the were going to happen anyway no matter who is in power and the the rods that again were going to be built with Federal funding anyway.

I think we all need to stop and look at the things that would happen anyway and the things he has done for his own gratification. The Bacterium is just like the copper dildo and the statue on the corner of milligan and The Terrace, just monuments to their own misplaced sense of worth!

The Labour leader and his clique may not be any different but I sense that they may not be so rash given the lessons learned from the RGR era.

For me as a little aside I voted for Dr Aly not for political ideals but her brains and background and wehn it comes time for the the state raffle I will do the same, look for the best candidate in my electorate.
