that's the whole point its not a bloke we are talking about...

we run adds on TV trying to make it clear that denigrating women is a bad thing ,( the one with the kids learning at a young age) and that things we might have thought were just suttle jokes ( the classic comment above, its just a joke said in jest ) and acceptable are contributing to a climate of acceptance of aggro against women.

Im no fan of Wilson , but I don't think we as a society can have it both ways.

As you know BC, I'm from the right and not at all a PC bandit , but I just think someone like McQuire should be smarter in the things he says...

so mate...unless I'm reading you wrong according to your previous it would have been ok if the joke was directed at say Robert Walls or Mike Sheehan but because its at a female, its not ok and we should treat her differently?

BC, with respect this is not about Caroline Wilson, she is perfectly capable of looking after herself. It is about the bigger picture of the general verbal and physical abuse that women are far more at risk of experiencing than men. For example, it came out today that one in four women under the age of 30 have experienced a online threat of physical violence. If I had a daughter I would be very concerned about that statistic. We need influential people in our community to be reinforcing the message that any sort of abuse towards women is never OK rather than undermining this message under the guise of "banter".

I don't disagree with anything you've said about the bigger picture but think in this particular instance its been blown out of proportion.

People should be more careful about what they say when they are in public positions, such as those three, I agree with Baz and Mike. However, people are allowed to dislike others, and, in the case of Frawley, she criticised him strongly during his years at Richmond; in a way, in fact, that she has never attacked the present Richmond coach, in spite of his shocking record, having coached the most games in the VFL without having won a final game. More broadly, the world is being increasingly feminised, a phenomenon which has its good and bad sides. To answer your question BC, the feminists want all the equality in the world so long as it benefits them. I am waiting for the female footballers to demand equal pay when they would struggle to beat a colts team in the WAFL. And for those whom scoff, remember that that the nation's female soccer team was recently beaten by a team of sixteen year old boys.

and I think that's the point AR....the idiots on the radio were having a go at her not because she's a woman but because of her style of journalism and past negative pieces on others in the industry.

I'm sorry but as a hater of most things PC this is just another knife into the heart of the Australian sense of humour or to put it another way ... the great tradition of taking the piss.

Equal rights come with equal/mutual respect and most importantly equal responsibility for actions and words. It's current heavily scewed by the actions of certain pressure groups towards one side and it aint the one that's gradually having its balls removed PC cut by PC cut.

The equal pay thing of womens sport is a no brainer when the game is the same and played under the same rules and regs, I totally support that, but in AFL that cant happen until the women start attracting multiple millions of punters through the gates each season off their own bat. As another example of unreasonable equal pay claims, lets look at the grand slam tennis, women want and in the case of the Oz open get equal pay but no for equal work. A mens game is best of 5 sets while women are best of 3 ... where's the equal work component in that argument.

I'm no fan of Eddy but really whats all the fuss about.

BC- correct. I agree with her on the 'conflict of interest' question, for example, but she took a strong line against Brayshaw for simply agreeing to play some of North's games in Tasmania -- so does Hawthorn, why no swipe against them?

I think the big question that needs to be asked is why wasn't Caro down at the ground helping raise money for such a good cause with the rest of them. Was she not invited???

It was not Wilson who made the subject a public "beat up" if you wish to call it that

Remember Chris Gayle and the "comment" that caused a shyte storm, then it was just a matter of time this would too.

Storm must have been brewing because Frawley was on the front foot with a weak apology on Bounce last night
