I saw that Anderson went past Kapil Dev on the test wickets chart last night; a good effort, especially in an era, which on the hole, has not favoured bowlers. Quickly on Dev as well, one must say what a great bowler he was, bowling on the flat tracks of India most of the time.

Kapil Dev was a great swing bowler and a great all rounder in an era of outstanding all rounders in world cricket AR.
I fondly remember his series out here back in 80/81, 85/86 & 91/92 where he consistently troubled the Australian top order especially Boon, Marsh, Border, Waugh brothers in the latter series with exquisite late swing both away & into the bat. Richie Benaud also spoke glowingly of his batting after he witnessed his unbelievable knock of 176 in the 83 World Cup when he came in with India in all sorts of trouble at 5 for not many as he flayed the bowling all over Scarborough.
As for Jimmy Anderson in the right conditions especially in England he can be almost unplayable at times with his brisk swing bowling and has made a mockery of us over there of late along with Stuart Broad.

Grassy: it was played at Leeds on a green pitch and heavy cloud; perfect conditions for England's bowlers. They won in under three days including rain delays. Bairstow made a century, Hales a solid half century, everyone else failled with the bat; together with jimmy's bowling, they won by an innings and 100 runs.

The India series in the mid 1980s: India had a good side and should have won 1-0; they were sixty runs short when the rain came in Melbourne, I believe; previouslly, Gavaskar had batted for over an hour for eight runs.

Geez Jimmy Anderson - I remember Matty Hayden walking down the pitch in a Brisbane Ashes Test and belting Anderson time & again back over his head , the ball was hitting the metal sideboards & leaving dents

I remember watching when Bailey took to Jimmy at the WACA not to long a go....Anderson is a class act but more so in England in spring v a sub continent team....does it every year.....difference between Kapil and Jimmy in test match status, is that Kapil contributed with the bat, something Jimmy very rarely does...England will be stuffed when he and Broad retire....which won't be too far away I reckon.
