What is the matter with clubs raising money from sponsors!!!!! The Eagles did it with the State Government. MMM I wonder if they have paid back the $12 mill they had from the state to bail them out.

What are you on about Anchor every club receives $$$$ from the AFL every year
Back in the early days up until Fosters brought forward their sponsorship money to help pay off most of their debt owed Freo were horribly in the red and called a basket case at one stage by Demetriou!

Demetriou was always hitting the Dockers over the head with a baseball bat, every time he and Little Addy came here.He also threatened to take away their licence. They were the unwanted side by both the WAFC and the AFL.But they never asked for what the clubs like Melbourne, Kangaroos, Footscray did. These clubs still have their hands out every year to the AFL.
And as I said lets not forget that the Eagles were bailed out by the state government to the tune of something like $12 mill.

That is true Anchorman but the Eagles for many years were also paying large dividends to the WAFC while Freo paid nothing.
Its all swings and roundabouts though, the AFL are a political party and no one knows what money goes where anymore.

Would be interesting to know if any of it was paid back? Maybe with their new facility it is part of the Eagles having to put in a substantial amount as they should?
We will never know any of these answers unfortunately.
AFL clubs can spend at will knowing they will be bailed out, a WAFL club stuffs up and they are fined.

The sport today like all sports is very political, hand picked people to run positions of power to suit agendas of other hand picked people in power, a cheque in the mail will always get the vote across the line, whats good for the sport is not whats good for the business, the public are only important enough to keep them interested enough to stay the course, throwing the odd chip their way is enough to placate them.

That is how I see how the AFL/WAFL works now.

Nailed the whole football industry especially here in wa all in that quoted post GWS ..anyone who thinks the WAFC are independent from the 2 VFL clubs are seriously deluded all those in prominent positions there have been hand picked by the 2 VFL clubs!
