Those of my vintage would recall the epic State of Origin WA v Vic battles of the late 70's and early 80's. I remember attending the very first one at the end of the 1977 season where we smashed the Vics by 94 points and Barry Cable played a blinder as I recall. This game was played in early October the week after the VFL Grand final. It was delayed by a week because there was a drawn grand final that year.

Lets imagine the AFL have organised another game for the week after the AFL GF this year and we have to pick a WA team, what do you reckon it would look like?

This was a WA origin team picked by Fox sports mid way through this season and I have put it here as a start. A couple of selections I would disagree with. I would certainly be finding a spot for Sharrad Wellingham after the season he has had and maybe Brad Shepperd as well. Any other suggestions?

Back: Garrick Ibbotson, Luke McPharlin, Alex Rance

Half back: Alan Toovey, Harry Taylor, Elliot Yeo

Centre: Brad Hill, Patrick Cripps, Stephen Hill

Half forward: Mark LeCras, Lance Franklin, Michael Walters

Forward: Jesse Hogan, Josh Kennedy, Hayden Ballantyne

Ruck: Aaron Sandilands, Nat Fyfe, Matt Priddis

Interchange: Andrew Swallow, Chris Masten, Cale Hooker, Nic Naitanui

I have had a crack at this. I will confess i only watch West Coast and East Freo games so i am not in the best position to judge. So kicking downwards.

Wellingham Rance Sheppard

McGovern Taylor Masten

H.Bennell A.Swallow(C) B.Hill

L.Jetta Darling Le Cras

Hogan Kennedy J.Garlett

NicNat Priddis(VC) Yeo

P.Cripps Ryder Boland Tropiano

Coach - Guy Mckenna

Question - who would Eddie Betts represent?

When Mick Malthouse put an end to Eagles players playing for WA in State Of Origin, late 90"s.Wa was getting flogged by both VIC+SA and can remember losing a game to the Allies at Subi.
The team MIKE has selected will take it up to both VIC+SA and flog the Allies.I really miss State Of Origin but also like the Vs Ireland International Rules games..
