From an Article on the Cricket Australia Website

"Australia’s win in the fifth and final Test at The Oval wraps up one of the more bizarre Ashes series in the history of the 133-year history of the battle for the little urn.

Every match has been a blow out and the toss has meant nothing and everything and the pre-match favourites lost every Test.

It’s only the second Ashes series of five matches or more that’s had a result in every fixture, and not one Test has gone into the fifth day.

And if you look purely at the stats, Australia should have won the series in a canter, dominating both the batting and bowling leader boards".

How do you make any sense out of the last six weeks cricket. My take is that both teams are pretty ordinary and England were able to produce outstanding individual performances at the right time. Also a fit Ryan Harris would have led the Aussies to victory I believe.

Yep agree with both teams being average mikeh......hopefully lessons can actually be learnt from this tour.....no sentiment for performances 12 - 18 months prior alas Johnson and Haddin.....no room for players who are eternally promising the world yet deliver nothing alas Watson and S Marsh......implement a horses for courses policy to suit the conditions alas Siddle type seamers.....

Reckon Voges can have a Rogers type career for the next 2 years whilst the side bloods some youngsters to replace Rogers and Clarke long term.....bowling depth Aust looks pretty well covered but can't be complacent....... just got to be sensible about all this ODI & T20 stuff and put demands on players and where their loyalties lie.....yeah be aggressive but not arrogant.....not every pitch is a 4 run per over batting strip....and not every pitch is a 150 clicks bowling pitch.....fark bowl and bat to the conditions even if means bowling line and length or batting with patience and leaving deliveries.....

like I said hopefully all concerned can really learn from this tour and move forward....players, the coach and the selectors....they all get paid well enough to do so!!

One of the worst test series in memory , every game a white washed one sided affair that finished early, not a single close game, last game was irrelevant as the poms had the ashes in the bag. Was looking forward to being able to watch more of it on weekends but most the time the match was already over by Saturday. Dud series.

back to the footy.

I usually look forward to an Ashes Series from England every 4 years nearly as much as the spine tingling experience of walking through the gates of the home of football Bassendean Oval of a Saturday morning in Winter when the Mighty Black & Whites are playing.
But after the last 4 away Ashes (granted 2005 was a great series bar the fact we lost) I have come away totally disillusioned with where Australian Cricket is at. For CA to put more emphasis on the hit and giggle of Big Bash over beating the arch enemy on their turf is unfathomable to me and the way we batted and bowled for the majority of the series suggests we may never beat an average at best England over there again or at least for some time or until it becomes a CA priority once again!

I agree BH, every team with the possible exception of South Africa has struggled to win away of late and it has a lot to do with batsman playing hit and giggle cricket on flat pitches which then makes them vulnerable on any unfamiliar seaming or spinning decks.

It was the weakest performance in England since 1956; but, at least that side had the excuse of playing against the great Jim Laker on pitches which favoured him. The current team had to play against Cook, Root, Broad, and Anderson whom did not even play in the last two tests, plus Moen Ali whom did well with the bat, and could not manage it. The fact that England got away with playing Moen Ali as a spinner for the series amounted to a minor Ashes miracle. The man's bowling average for Worcester this season is 90, and having watched him against Australia one can understand why.

Compare this performance in 2015 with that of 1985, a side which had less ability and played against a better opposition, and even allowing for the loss of the series, the efforts of those whom played twenty years ago should be applauded.

Bazza you don't like cricket full stop, so your comments are just as irrelevant mate......so when you say "back to the footy"....obviously you mean your beloved cap cheating moneyed up Sydney Swans?... because SF season is dead and buried....I tell you if Sydney and Hawthorn make the GF, then what another dud final that is gonna be :pinch:

.....can't believe you are getting excited about the AFL.....went to 3 games of footy over the weekend in Melbourne on my visit there...2 x AFL and 1 x VFL and TBH I enjoyed the VFL game the most....hopefully when you say "back to the footy" you mean the WAFL mate and you will be watching a few games as a neutral supporter?

BH considering SD have won only 1 flag and (?)2 GF appearances in the last 20 odd plus years, quite surprised you are slagging off the CA so much, instead of your beloved SDFC?...... :P .....

The difference being the SDFC actually play with some heart and soul Freeze whilst the Test side are more concerned with how to improve their bank accounts and WAG status then how to improve against a swinging duke ball or how to control one!

Only teasing you BH.....SD are a fantastic committed side....bit over rated by you Swannie fans at times.... but you can't fault the players and fans passion for the jumper ;)...yeah the test boys are over paid prima donas....for "professionals" they seem to make an awful lot of mistakes....if I made as many mistakes as they did in my profession, I'd be struck off for incompetence.....
