Well the eagles are sounding the alarm at collapsing talent pool in wa.

Nesbitt was on ch 9 tonight saying the numbers are unsustainable.

17s team numbers have collapsed from 70 4 years ago to just 29 now, Nesbitt reckons they are looking at 15 teams in a few years.

Seems the afl monster needs feeding, soon the whole thing will implode.

WAFL clubs are creating the has and has nots. Development sides and the large groups of numbers into preliminary colts squads are pulling apart junior sides.

Nothing to do with the AFL.

To put together enough teams to run a viable Year 12 competition West Perth, Claremont and Subiaco had to join together. In the Claremont District clubs like Swanbourne, West Coast, Marist all struggle to get sides together past Year 9 or 10. Huge number of PSA Schools that don't allow the kids to play Junior Football on top of their school football commitments.

The Junior District Development Council model needs an overhaul, along with the WAFL.

A non-football reason may well be that with the expansion of shopping hours has an impact on the numbers available in the 15-17 age group.

And before the AFL/VFL disease did the junior comps have major issues ?

My personal experience was with the young bloke, he quit in year 12 , and once he started uni at 17 he worked Saturdays and Sundays and nights as well, plus wanted to socialise a bit as well, that was the end of it. Lots of young blokes the same.

Also i think there is so much emphasis placed on making the big time AFL wise , a lot of guys just think oh well I'm not up to it so stuff this, time to move on in life.

Nope, WPFC spokesman said a lot of money is getting sucked out of the system bynthe WAFC.

Also even the participation numbers are artificially inflated due to the number of girls now playing.

What is wrong with the weak carnt kids of today?
Get off instagram & facebook and go out and have a kick with your mates and enjoy the comradeship that playing footy brings and you will remember it as the best times of your life in your later years!

Which has now seen unprecedented explosion of Soccer numbers mate - the whole caper stinks
The AFL is only interested in elite kids & all the little tyros just get flicked - eerily similar to what happens to the delisted players in the end
The whole system is just rotten
