It's not my fight - I'm an EP supporter - but the election thread got me thinking that with a state election around the corner a golden opportunity has (probably) been missed.

Form the Save the WAFL Party and you'd have a platform and potential media attention for the duration of election time (its up to you what you do with it).

I don't know when deadlines for this sort of thing end though - forming a legit political party requires (I think) 500 members and a constitution so its not as if you can do this tomorrow - might not be as easy as it sounds - I don't know I've never done it.

But personally I think it was the best chance to have a voice in all this.

But if you got taken seriously enough you could end up talking to Liberal and Labor about preferences which you could "sell" for talk concerning the WAFC and the stadium - issues which affect the WAFL and may still be relevant in 4 years time.

In all seriousness Dave, that's not such a bad idea. With the state election due in March, may be too late to form a political party for this coming election. I would imagine it would take many months to organise but the party would be firmly in place for other state elections. As far a sI know, political parties can be formed anytime.
Not having done anything like this myself, I guess the first step would be to secure the five hundred members. As we all know, thousands went to the old wafl matches and I cannot see attaining memberships being an issue. As you say, we would at least have a voice in all this, whereas at the moment that is not the case. There are not many political parties in WA, 6 I think? Maybe room for another?
