mate...not talking about beamers per se...more balls directed at the head whether they bounce or not. i guess tennis is the only other analagous sport where you can serve a bouncing ball directly at someone's bonce

and BC they go at a tad faster speed than a cricket/base ball too.......Sam Groth was clocked at 260 km/hr from memory......imagine if a bowler could bowl at that speed?.....

Just throwing this out there about Hughes funeral is it a bit over the top? Do they do these funerals for our soldiers who also fight for Australia?

Was gunna mention this too FS. Terrible, sad and tragic accident, and yes it did hit home for all sports fans. Reality though says he was a GOOD cricketer, not great and certainly not a champion, and was for the last year or so a fringe player. The media have a lot to answer for, making this like some sort the passing of a great man who did great deeds for the betterment of the country, rather than a sporting one. I just hope that the channel 9 machine doesnt start selling "63" memoribiilia.

I know what your saying, your argument just doesn't make sense and the logic behind what your saying is flawed IMO,

As I said name another sport where we throw or bowl the ball into the pitch/wicket before it gets hit by the batter/striker. Can you because I cant think of any

I take you back to my original post in the link, the bouncer is to try to confuse a batters footwork, not to deliberately hit him in the head, so unless we change the rules around bowling being that the ball cant bounce, then we can have a rule about bowling at the head. If we are adding in the fact the ball should be bowled into the pitch, then being a turf wicket we run the risk of up and down bounce, so there is always a chance the ball will hit you in the head or the feet.

So do we change all the rules of the game around this based on one accident, or do we just all get on with life.

at the end of the day you show me any other sport or any other activity full stop where you're allowed to take aim at an opponent's head regardless of whether you're trying to confuse his footwork, sit him on his arse or take his head off. boxing and MMA are the only one's I can think of.

Interesting logic there PH.......we just all get on with life.......think the only reason why this bouncer subject is getting discussed because Hughes lost his life! We all know it was an accident, the bouncer is indeed there to mess up a batters footwork and their concentration......is part and parcel of the game but hey sadly for Hughes it caused his death.......surely that allows some folk to talk/reflect of their concerns about it without geing told they are speaking rubbish or shite........the game and life as you say will certainly move on.....no other choice but too...hopefully some lessons can be learnt and some bravado by bowlers in regards to off the cuff remarks like "I want to kill you......knock your head off........won't be said so flippantly........in the end cricket is just a game.....merely a game with no consequence to life or death at all?

When was the last time an Australian soldier was killed fighting for Australia? Individually soldiers do not have the same profile as internationally renowned sportsmen/person. The sacrifice made by soldiers is far greater than any sportsmen and is remembered collectively on Anzac day and rememberence day.

I cannot think of any country in the world that places sporting personnel as high on thier hero list as we do here. They play sport and entertain.
