Being the time of year when clubs use this forum to advertise for coaches one has to ask some serious questions:

- Who (barring an old club legend going back to the club he loves) would seriously want to coach amateur footy? Such a thankless and undervalued role. 2 weeknights and your whole saturday is a huge commitment of time to be away from your family (plus the work away from the club).

Someone needs to do something to attract and retain coaches cause I can't see how the desire can continue to be there. Surely must be getting harder and harder to find committed coaches in this day and age

Agree with the sentiments of your post. The Amateur Cooncil need to increase the amount that can be paid to a senior coach from $15k to at least $25k.

A number of A Grade Clubs probably already pay this amount but obviously off the books. It still works out at about $20.00 per hour for the amount of time they put in which is just ridiculous.

At amateur level the senior coach probably puts in more hard yards than the WAFL equivalent. No wonder we can't attract ex WAFl coaches when the financial rewards are so low!

Be interesting to know how much WAFL coaches get a year??
Even WAFL assistant coaches?
You would think that a senior waafl coach would be on more money than WAFL assistants and wafl coaches spend a hell of a lot more time at their respective clubs

You guys are kidding aren't you? 2 week nights a week and Saturday afternoon is what my old junior coaches put in, for nothing. Obviously a senior A grade coach will put in more hours preparing and studying opposition etc.... but as Earl Spalding said when asked by Brad Hardie last week if he's full time or part time, you know how it goes Brad, part time pay, full time hours.

WAFL clubs train 3 nights a week, have recovery sessions on a Sunday, team meetings, video review when available and I reckon WAFL players put in pre seasons that are second only to AFL clubs.

It is very hard to attract top coaches at WAFL level these days because they can earn a lot more being an AFL assistant and AFL clubs have up to 10 assistants these days. And there is a lot more glory and travel associated with being an AFL assistant than being a WAFL league coach.

Hence why it took Perth about 4 or 5 months to find a replacement coach after sacking McMahon mid season. I believe McMahon was on 70k a year, considered part time but he put in full time hours plus some.

DD i was implying that WAFL coaches and assistants would spend a lot more time doing their job than what an ammo coach wuld do.

Mcmahon on 70k??? Surely not? Unless he had another role with the club on top of his coaching?

I was referring to the first two posts FFF. And yes, McMahon was on 70k, well so I was told several times. You would think that the Duke might be on a bit more with his playing and coaching resume compared to the last bloke.
