The Perth Football Club will announce on Monday that they have appointed Earl Spalding as our new coach for I think an initial 3 year period. He has also brought with him Arthur Maskos as his assistant. Maskos was the South Freo colts coach for past 2/3 years.

At least now we can get on with the business of recruiting some of the delisted AFL players. I would start with Ash Smith from WCE then go and look at some of O'Hanlon, Helbig, Williams all former Richmond players then look at Sherringham, Burbery from Geelong. We need to start moving quickly and I feel for the big Duke as he really is coming into this gig about 6 weeks too late.

Al least the Duke is a good Demon.

Where was the good Demon in 98??

You would start with Ash Smith...watch a bit of footy do ya??

We need big key forwards, big key backs, mature Ruckman, quality mids...

6 weeks to late???
Where was his application in the first round of interviews???
Last man standing gets the gig!

I could go on but whats the point!

He decided to explore new challenges like hundreds of others. Where were Cable and Miller in 76? Does this then not make them good Demons?

I said start with looking at Ash Smith. He is still better than a lot of the crabs we have on our list...and no don't even have an interest in footy. I just buy my Perth membership each year like I have for the previous 29 and watch 70 to 80% of their games as well as 90% of all 9 AFL games each week and go on forums so smug pricks can take free shots.

We need big key forwards, big key backs, mature Ruckman, quality mids...

Did YOU watch much footy DO YA. My quickfire list had a bit of everything on there. This list would be a start until Ablett, Beams, Ryder, Pendleberry, O'Meara realise how good the WAFL is and clamour to join the Demons.

Yes 6 weeks too late and he didn't apply because we are a basket case and why would a rookie coach take on such a hopeless task with a playing list that is as crap as the previous coach. If you haven't figured it out yet, we did scrape the bottom of the barrel and had to BEG people because nobody wants it so yep, last man dragged gets the gig.

I also could go on but then whats the point when all I want is to see Perth make a final and smug pricks realise that unless God is free in 2015, then the Duke is all we have.

Well said Swanky. No news of a coaching appointment in today's West. Makes me curious Go Dees might be on to something which just elevates my hatred for James Hird. I wonder what camp Mark Harvey is in, the Hird camp or the Bomber Thompson camp? Or is he hanging out for the top job at Essendon? Very interesting, but frustrating at the same time.

If what GoDees has said on the Perth thread is correct, can we afford to wait the outcome of the Hird / Essendon saga? I don't think so.
Get on your bike.

I like the Maskos appointment as an assistant. He will bring a solid coaching record and fresh ideas to the joint and he won't tolerate prima donnas. He'll have his work cut out at Lathlain.

Yes, I agree Dazz. Maskos will bring some fresh air to Lathlain. As you say, he will have his work cut out and he may come as a shock to some at PFC but he will put on the table exactly what this club needs.
I wonder if everyone will pick it up. I hope so.

Dazz, nominations for President and #4 directors have been called. What is your take on this?
We have not had an election for over 10 years and now is the opportunity for change which is badly needed IMO.
I hope that there are some out there willing and able to put a hand up änd who have the football and business nous and the contacts and the influence to bring fresh ideas and change to the club.
There are so many Perth supporters out there who have been in hiding for far too long. Time for some of them to come out of hibernation and help make a difference.

Sean Lynch played ressies most of the year. He did crack the odd league game but was unable to gain a permanent place in a wooden spoon side.
IMO the jury is out on him but given different circumstances he may show us something more about what he has got. He is only 20 and does seem to have a toughness about him.
Maskos may be a key here.
