Just watching the NRL on foxtel, yes I am a little lost without footy at the moment. However it's good to see the NRL playing a few curtain raiser grand finals in the lead up to the big one. Unlike the AFL who these days despise any type of movement on their grounds before a game. I think the AFL panic if a few seagulls land on the grass, beyond bloody ridiculous.

But it certainly gives the NRL Grand Final Day a great feel and adds to the build up. Unlike the AFL Grand Final which has absolutely nothing given their over precious attitude.

Well done NRL.

Yes I don't find rugby remotely exciting either, but it's sport. Something to watch. But my point was their Grand Final day at least has some lead up games to watch. Instead of watching the grass grow at an AFL Grand Final.

anchorman wrote: Unka I didn't find it boring at all. In fact I found it to be an appreciation of just how good the Hawthorn football club are as a football team.
I tipped Sydney by a big margin ,and fell flat on my face ,but still loved watching the way Hawthorn played.
incidentally jardine I was being a wee bit facetious in my comment. But I don't really enjoy the game.

Im not fan of rugby league either, though i do like watching union. I just dont think AFL is as good to watch that it used to be. Sometimes i find AFL hard to watch ( Hawks V Saints etc) terrible boring.I mean dockers V gsw, i knew heaps of dockers fans who didnt go, as they knew the match would be boring

Unka how can you possibly like watching union?.....FMD watched a bit of the Wallabies v Argentina game.....where's the skill?......only one or 2 players actually kick the footy......most of the time out on the full or up n under for the kicker to catch it themselves.....yeah some big hits, but all this falling on the ground shit and arses in faces totally loses me......though I do see similarities between the AFL and union by how you need to go backwards to go forwards!!!

Thank fark the All Blacks lost to the Boks......NZ is in mourning at present though only till next weekend till they play the Wallabies!!!......The All blacks have gone over 2 years without a loss and the Kiwis are carrying on like they support the Perth Footy club.....give me a break you gonna lose sometime.......

I sat and watched the AFL with a few kiwi buddies, they think rugby requires more skill than AFL.....I said how?.....they say throwing a ball is harder than hand passing it!!.....I gave up after that.....it's like flogging a dead horse sometimes!!

Spot on jardine. I listened to a bit of the second half of the Parramatta v the Qld team's GF while driving home. It would have been quite intriguing for those that love rugby.

Learning nuances about any game we dont understand we dismiss as "rubbish" I like all sports ( generally)and try not to compare as they are so different. People overseas ( again generally) see our game is completely one you cant understand, again can anyone serioulsy explain the rules properly, different set for AFL to Wafl etc etc, yet its the same game. No regulated size of grounds etc, and find the most interesting part the goal umpires signalling a goal. Skills for one game dont suit another, doesnt mean the game is crap.

anchorman wrote: I am not certain of the logic of that Unka. I go every second week regardless of who we play. I find that the likes of those you mention would jump ship if, or when, the Dockers go through hard times. Maybe they jumped on board just because they saw the Dockers we having a good patch. How could they know the match was going to be boring? Did they take their crystals balls out early?
I wonder if they knew that the GWS Swans game number one this year was going to go the way it did. Did they think it was going to be boring?
Some strange people watch, when it suits them, our great game.

Yes gws beat sydney, and did saints beat dockers, and bears ( i think)beat roos, my point being outta 200 gamesover a season, how many non boring matches are there? Most are so predictable it aint funny.

There would be more skill involved in a game of tiddlywinks than either of the rugby games ..they both truly are an acquired taste!!
