1985 -- EF had us covered and deserved the flag. EF four wins Subiaco one win in the middle of the season. EF benefitted from some shocking kicking at goal in the grand final -- Sells and Dean. This is the side that should be regarded as EF's best in the modern era, not 1986, which failed to win the flag.

1986 -- Subiaco three wins EF two wins; Bennett did kick his ten goals -- in a game which was actually much closer than I remember it; EF had a big third quarter. Dean starred kicking five goals from centre half forward. In the grand final, EF were never in it, even though Crutchfield getting injurred in the first quarter left us one short; he was Bennett's opponent too. Bennett kicked just two goals.

Hey AR is the current Subi backman Dan Leishman any relation to the former Subi back pocket of that 85-86 era Steve Leishman the No.10?
From memory Steve was originally from Vic and may have had a stint at EF before settling at Subi and playing a fair bit of footy there back then.

Hi BH -- I could not say for sure -- but it is good to be able to recognise the name. Yes, I remember 'Steve' too: he was a more than useful player for us in the back line; goodness, the ball was down there a lot in those days. He did wear 10 and was a Victorian good memory BH. I will find out for you for certain.

Leishman left Subi after the 85 GF loss from memory BH.....played 48 games....can't remember him being at EF but geez we are talking 30 years ago practically

Remember watching EF Bennett line up for goal at Subi Oval nearly on the wing, Percy Johnson was on the radio saying watch this, this kid will kick a goal from here, the other commentators said yeah yeah Perc......Bennett goes back and kicks a goal post high....most amazing kick must of gone 70 - 80 metres....think Perc was down at EF at the time doing some coaching.

I think he played a few Ressies games at Old Easts freeze in the early 80's before heading to Subi.
On Darren Bennett I was at that 2nd Semi in 86 when he kicked 10 snags many from long range.
I remember him kicking 20 odd goals in a Reserves game back around that time  sheesh most teams dont even kick that many in 2 games these days!! :silly:

Singha: thanks for the confirmation
Freeze: think Percy was down at Moss Street; he beratted EF for being over-confident on the back of the 2 semi win.

Shit I didn't know that BH - I liked Leishman. Much shorter than his son and a great Moustacha !!! Back in the day when every team had a specialist forward pocket and back pocket. Leish was a great little dependable player. I've seen him at the footy watching his son and i tell you what he did a great job on Peake yesterday - he never got a sniff !!!
