I know I'm an old fashioned frustrated fan of the game formerly known as Aussie Rules, but I am particularly frustrated with the tactic of having all players in one half of the ground. Having watched subi the last few weeks I've lost count of the times teams have been heading towards goal only to find there is no one to kick to. So they stop and wait for everyone to run in. Ridiculous. Surely it would be better to have someone positioned up there to make a lead or contest a mark? I would make a player stay in the goal square for the entirety of the match. Groundbreaking idea.

It frustrates me too Singha. It's a tactic used in the AFL that is being brought into state leagues. However in the AFL they are professional athletes and that is what they do for a living. In the WAFL we are semi professional. Clubs in the WAFL physically can't put in the amount of work that AFL teams do.

When this tactic works it does look good. But if you don't have super quick players that are able to push up and push back and overrun their opponent the game plan doesn't work.

I think that if you want to use this game plan at lower league level at least put a marking target inside the forward 50 just to give you another option heading inside 50. Heaven forbid that anyone could run past and be front and centre.

Frustrates the bloody hell out of I also! No-one seems to adhere to their respective field positions any-more. Much of todays play seems to be copying from what happens in soccer and basketball. Nowadays the footy field is simply seen as the attacking half or defensive half. And the players seem to congregate whichever part the ball is in :( That is one of the reasons it's not called Aussie rules any more :( . Many of the tactics and field plays are copied from other sports. For example the reserve player/s only came on if someone got injured during the game, but nowadays players are coming off, going on and coming off frequently. Sometimes the game looks more like a rugby scrum with too many players around the ball. All which means the frustration of watching it all. It would be simple to stop if the coaches wanted it to stop!

Everyone sings the praises of players getting 30plus possessions half of them are dinky little handballs or kicking the ball sideways to each other. Be nice to see a coach who doesn't play copy cat of the crap afl coaching style. Then you get the wafl coaches doing the same and the game is full of turnovers as the skill level is not as good as far as spotting up the short lead terrible to watch and no doubt to play.

I think you will find in the 18's and the TAC cup that the teams have to have at least 2 players each in the 50 metre arc. It is not a rule but an agreed move to stop the 'flodding forward'.

Perhaps worth a try!

Flooding is messy, and quite horrible to watch.

There is a great product called Australian Rules Football for any media mogul to pick up and run on his TV station.

This was mentioned on ABC Grandstand Saturday night by Tagdh Keneally , and says it has helped, but I would hate the game to head down the Netball path by implmenting this at the highest level

Soon one coach will overcome this. Instead of taking off a player just for the sake of it, he will rest the player in the goal square. That means some one has to follow him. Next they could rest two players in the goal square.

Or (gasp, shock, horror  ) all the players could simply occupy their respective field positions!?

that won't help LS..it just means when the ball goes up to the other end, the defender will just push forward and leave the guy in the square all to himself and give the defenders a plus one up the ground.
