Having seen vision of AB rubbing the ball with his gloves, what else could it be other than ball tampering.

it was Du Plessis who was fined for ball tampering when he was shining the ball on his trousers right next to the zipper. maybe he was just pleasuring himself by rubbing it in that area but obviously the match referee had some concerns.

I too have seen the footage, and yes it doesnt look good. But to air the dirty laundry in the media, and not just have a quiet work to match referee's or umpires to me is poor form. Next they will be threatening to take their bat and ball and go home.

Agree Warner is a good bat, probably the most consistent in the team currently, but this just makes him look like a sore looser.

Just my opinion guys

Great Ton Warner, for such a mental midjet he is certainly mentally tough at the crease.

PH,I think the television showed enough footage of AB rubbing the rough side of the ball to alert all and sundry, umpires included. The third umpire who would have seen it all happening should have had a word to the match umpires and had them ask the question and asked to look at ABs gloves.Simple.Warner was only expressing what a large number of cricket followers were asking. Was AB cheating were they defacing the ball<who knows ,but the question had to be asked. It for sure wasn't going to come from the ICC.
By the way it seems that the television have either been warned off or AB has changed his ways after it has become public knowledge. Not ball tampering last night.

Agree AM but Warner needs to be mature enough to not say what other people are thinking. There are better ways to alert the umpires........

I think Warner does have something.... An amazing ability to take test attacks apart. He looked like he was batting on a different pitch to all the others last night, Clarke was gutsy but he still looked uncomfortable. I think that Mitch and Co may make the South Africans jump around a bit as well. First though to get 500 on the board....

Interesting to see the umpires reacting to the Australians throwing the side arm onto the pitch when returning the ball to keeper. Obviously doing this with shiny side up and landing it on the pitch to rough it up a bit. Funnily enough Warner was a culprit.

I think that this is within the rules. You are allowed to throw the ball back to the stumps. If a player was to rub the ball into the pitch, obviously that is a different story. Fair play I say, a lot fairer than rubbing it with ones gloves.

Don't think I am being biased here because it was the Aussies. If another team was to do the same thing, I would accept it (especially as if they do not get the spin right on the ball, they may end up roughing up the shiny side, which would be doing them a disservice). It wasn't over the top, and it is part of the game. Stupid for the umpires to question and warn Clarke for this....

Anyone else have an opinion?

you can throw the ball back to the stumps but to deliberately ensure it lands short when throwing from close distances is something the umps dont like as that is clearly trying to alter the state of the ball..
consistency from umps on all of this would be good though..

teams have been bouncing it in for years like baseball as sometimes a flat throw on the bounce arrives quicker than the big throw aimed to land at the keeper on the full..
certainly when throwing from shorter distances its obvious that blokes are deliberately trying to alter the state of the ball to scuff it up then once they have a side scuffed up they like to keep it on the full again to then work on one side to get reverse swing..

there is a rule that you are not able to deliberately alter the state of the ball, i suppose when a team is consistently throwing the ball in the dirt from short distances to the keeper then its pretty obvious..
consistency the issue though from the umps..
