Or even better still just somehow keep them all up in Bali never to return to Oz!!

I read somewhere there's 134 Kiwis entering our country monthly most of them on the dole, and people are concerned about illegal refugees.

Probably down at Cott protesting with the other dole bludgers.

So really if all sharks were gone would it really effect the way you live? Tell you what be packed beaches! Like crocodiles, would it matter if they were extinct?

You clearly where not there have no idea who or what you are talking about, the old tag of rent a crowd being thrown around is really just a pathetic cheap shot.

I was at Cottesloe for the first one along with 3000 others, I live in the area, work full time, am middle aged and voted liberal and the last few state elections and have never been to a environmental protest in my life before, it was obvious from the crowd I observed that many were like me, just ordinary concerned people who do not agree with the policy, so before you mouth off with BS get your facts right, nobody paid me to be there as a rent a crowd or thousands of others, trying to just pigeon hole people won't win the argument,

it does however appears due to the lack of people protesting in favour of cols policy that perhaps he might have to start paying people to do so, so maybe there will be a rent a crowd after all.

yes is the answer, ever time a species is wiped out or ecology becomes a great deal poorer, apart from that all wild animals play a part in the natural envirnoment, take one out and the balance is put out of order, perrhaps you would like to live in a world with nothing but humans, i know for a fact i would not.

So you voted liberal let Barnet get on with the job I'm not on either side of the fence tbh but it's fact that the drum lines work in Queensland.

That's nonsense, if the government do something I dont agree with Im going to let them know, besides this policy was never discussed during the election. And I don;t agree with Queenslands policy either, and your wrong on that anyway as drum lines are used in conjunction with shark proof barriers, something not even used here.

The point is just saying people are rent a crowd because they are having their say is a trite, well worn and blantantly incorrect cliche.

Yes we are swimming in their territory, but swimming at the beach is also a humans territory as well. If you want to swim 300m-1km offshore, then I believe you do so at your own risk, but when you are just down at the beach on a hot summers day, you should not be scared of the water because of 3+m great whites.

The great white is not going to go extinct, the government has not issued a worldwide 3m+ cull on sharks. They are doing it to protect the people. So what happens when the government does nothing about the sharks, and another person's life is taken, who do we blame? The goverment. When they do something about it, who do we blame? The Government.

To me they are trying to make it safer for the humans, I am all for that. If their ends up being a better way to do this and it means not culling sharks, then I will definately be all for that as well. But at the moment, it seems this is the most effective way.

Soprano my problem with what is going on is that there is no sound scientific evidence that this is going to resolve the problem I pose the hypothetical situation, which hopefully won't happen, what de we do if there is another shark attack near the 'drum-lined' beaches?

Exactly - what do we do, just go into more wild panic kneee jerk reactions. 6 people have been taken I think in 14 years, most were miles off and in remote places, one was at Esperance at a remote surf beach, a couple down south in surf breaks meters and meters off sure, in very high risk areas, others have been scuba divers - once again in deep water. There have only been 2 attacks at metro beaches, both at Cott, one confirmed and one suspected ( body never found) both were over 50 meters out - so thats 9 metro beaches in nearly 200 years that have never had a fatal shark attack.

no body has been taken in the areas most people swim in at the beach, within 30 meters or less, I go to Cott and swmim in summer all the time, if you use your brains and and dont expose yourself to high risk areas your fine. Sometimes I have seen nut cases nearly 150 meters out, ALONE swimming up and down North Cott,,WTF?? and people wonder why there are shark attacks???

While I agree with all you say above Bazza, I think you'll find the year 2000 attack at Cottesloe of Ken Crewe was very close to shore.

mate i was one of the coppers that attended the ken crew incident , he was at least 50 meters out.

Fair enough then, I must of read it wrong. or the media were incorrect! I read that eye witnesses at the time said he was in chest deep water when the attack happened. I take your word over theirs though as I know the media don't always report correctly.

And anyway why did you quote me regarding rent a crowd you won't find that quote in any of my posts, I wrote dole bludgers referring to the greens/activists down at Cottesloe.
