Swan Essedon will drag and fight this as long and as far as they can.

Apparently they were offered some deals yesterday behind closed doors to settle the matter, they refused.

Their new president is known as one of the most litigous characters in Victoria.

It will gp on for a long time...

this whole thing is a mess. Asada,Wada, the AFL nobody has explained properly what is legal, what is illegal. there are different stories and interpretations about what is classed as legal or not. The players wont be charged, but 4 essendon people will? none of it makes sense.

it is no suprise the AFL's general lack of hardness on drugs is now biting them in the backside. this is called karma, and it will drag this code through the mire for years. the AFL (Demetriou) should be charged with bringing the game into disrepute as well.

A "One strike your out" policy would create a mindset of complete clean ethics. Weed out the idiots and attract young kids to the sport. But the AFL's greed and fear of losing its superstars has clouded its judgement. So called professionals who have failed and failed and failed again, confirming they are no better businessmen than a young kid who works at a fast food outlet. The AFL should be held accountable and start a resign now or be sacked policy. They are a joke and we (the people) have been saying this for years. And we have been confirmed as 100% correct. With that in mind the AFL should be ashamed of themselves.

Bazza Essendon will not win any fight with the AFL. Sure they may have minor victories along the way, but they won't win in the end. For example, any supposed blockbuster games - GONE; premium timeslots for their games - GONE etc

I hope you're joking 42...why would the AFL take away say ANZAC Day from Essendon? It would be biting its own arse given the revenue it generates. Essendon will be looked after in terms of games because the AFL is a business...unpalatable yes, but a fact nonetheless.

No I am not joking BC. Will it happen that depends on whether Essendon agree to the penalties. What I have outlined I suspect will be used as a bargaining tool between the AFL and Essendon. With respect to Anzac Day, I don't have any doubts that a similar crowd would occur due to the nature of the day and that it is not dependent on Essendon's presence.

It will be up to Essendon to make the call as to how far they want to push the AFL. However, if they push it will be at their peril.

hawthorn v collingwood would attract the same crowd on anzac day

the afl could easily hurt the bombers with obscenely tough fixturing, and no blockbusters. they can do that with no repercussions.

also the indigienous game. make it richmond v geelong. there are ways around it. the bombers are not the only club in melbourne with a following. there are many ways the afl can get them while it drags through the courts for the next 4 years.

When big problems arrise that turn supporters off in droves, it never really recovers. The NRL is living proof of this in the aftermath of Super League. So many people in the league states will tell you this.

The AFL want to be careful...

carefull of what exactly - implementing some rules???

No, just careful not to allow this to carry on without an appropriate outcome.

Correct BC, this is one of the biggest, if not the biggest home and away season game of the year. I really don't see FOX allowing this fixture to fall wayside. FOX would pay the AFL a bomb for telecasting this game. I'm sure its been contracted for Essendon v Collingwood for a set number of years.

Money talks...

agreed mike...they could substitute hawthorn or carlton for essendon but doubt you'd get 90,000 there ...and plus the fact it was sheedy who initiated it when coach at essendon from memory
