The thing i don't understand. A club like Essendon, 1000 yr history, are prepared to live and die protecting a proven scum bag like Hird when in the real world, any employer would jettison him without batting an eyelid to protect the furniture and the greater good of the firm.

Essendon FC has become myopic and delusional thinking they can take on city hall and the weight of public opinion. This is going to be a lawyers picnic but the thing these EFC twats need to understand is once you go legal you have to tell the truth. Spivs and spin and lots of dollars don't count in courts of law. Hird's headed for the S-bend i suspect.

They are standing by him because they, along with hird believe they have done nothing wrong. U are talking s"@t. How can they possibly go down if as they say the players haven't done anything wrong. All the tests and confessions and they can't find anything, Well then it should all be dropped draw a line in the sand and start again.

The AFL once again Piss Weak, agree Hird is a scumbag , but he club has painted itself in a corner over this one, they also know the AFL will look after them.

this will drag on for years , will cost a fortune I hope it sends Essendon and Hird bankrupt.

If the AFL had any balls they would say take your medicine or fight it , but be aware we will fight it all the way as well and when you lose your licence will be suspended , you will bear all the AFL costs , we will bankrupt you , your choice your call,

And we will chase Hrd and all the directors individually, for costs.

They want to play hard then OK we,ll play hard , but beware if we lose we can live on, if you lose Essendon football club will be wiped out.

OJ, Reinie (Loyd)and many others have got off. James will be another.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Carnwest you obviously of not read or heard of the Ziggy Switkowski report? That alone paints a very bad picture for Eesendon. What they did was a complete disgrace. Hird should go down big time, they're own internal report made them look terrible so what is an independent going to uncover

As Bomber put it the other week on the 360 programme, its only going to turn people off footy if it drags on as it apprears its going to be.

When big problems arrise that turn supporters off in droves, it never really recovers. The NRL is living proof of this in the aftermath of Super League. So many people in the league states will tell you this.

The AFL want to be careful...

If Bomber is correct and I think he is that people will be turned away from the game then he and Essendon should hang their heads in shame. They are responsible for this. Forget about trial by media and all this buck passing. Bringing the game into disrepute is a small charge. They should be facing life bans. It's incredible how it can be defended

Essendon and those charged certainly have the right to go down a legal avenue if they so chose. However, my reading of the situation is that there is a fair amount of toing and froing going on at the moment; Essendon et al are trying to minimise the fallout but in the final analysis will agree to what the AFL's penalties are after all the horse trading.

If they choose to fight it then they will seek more time and the August 26 date will be changed to sometime after the end of September. If Essendon et al say they need more time to prepare their case the AFL will have to agree to the extension. If they don't Essendon et al will get a court injunction to ensure that they are given the extension.

As I said I don't think it will be in Essendon's or the AFL's best interest if Essendon are penalised for the 2014 season rather than the 2013 season.
