BH, the thing that makes me laugh (or is that cry) is the amount of fark ups by the third umpire who has the technology available to assist him. The balls ups like the Trott, Argar (catch not stumping) & Khawaja decisions demonstrate that the third umpire lacks the skill & ability to interpret the evidence in front of his eyes. The technology should be producing better outcomes but it is the incompetence of the third umpires that is detracting from the game & causing controversy.

I don't know if I am delusional but the evidence I saw on the replay was

1. The gap between bat and ball was so big you could drive a truck through it
2. Not a speck on hot spot
3. The audio was quite clearly the back of Usmans bat hitting his thigh pad

If there was a howler to be overturned, surely this was the one. Otherwise why waste 5 or 6 minutes of watching endless replays and thousands of dollars of sophisticated technology if the guy operating it is incompetent. Its like giving a hoon a Ferrari. No matter how good the machinery, an idiot will eventually crash it.

Maybe its time to get rid of this neutral umpire stuff as 8 of the best 12 umpires in the world are English or Australian and I'm sure any of these would be doing a better job than these guys

I do not wish to be too cynical. But is it now time to have a 4th, 5th, 6th and maybe a 7th umpire upstairs?
Perhaps they could persuade the third one to gain some common sense or buy the poor chap some spectacles.

Precisely. The biggest problem with the DRS is that the 'Third Umpire' is just that - another umpire who is always going to be loathe to over rule his mates out in the middle unless blindingly obvious (which last night was in fact and he still didn't have the plums to over rule).

The 'third umpire' actually needs to become a specialist position, removed from umpiring in the middle and their chummy little in-crowd, and someone who is an expert on the technology. If you continually draw the 'third umpire' from the existing umpire stocks you will continue to have this problem because 1) they don't understand the technology and what it is showing, and 2) they are naturally reluctant to over rule their chums in the elite and luxurious international umpire fraternity

Either get rid of the DRS, or go out onto the street and find someone that can actually read what they see in the replay. Are the 3rd umps so thick???
