I am still yet to hear a better football commentator in Australia than the late great Frank Sparrow ..he & Percy could make a dull game sound like the end to the 2010 WAFL Grand Final ..will never forget some of his classic calls like "in goes Boucher out goes Moss", "Swans come out of defence like the charge of the light brigade" and "the goal umpire says she looks good enough for me there's another 6 pointer to the black & whites" :)

Using the sport AFL as the yardstick it would appear that Association Football must have a huge number of names. For example, in Italy it would be Serie A, B etc, EPL in England,be La Liga etc. It is patent nonsense to call Aussie Rules AFL.

In WA: a behind is forced not rushed; we have fairest and best awards; footy jumpers despite the advertisement in yesterday's West.

Apparently we don't mark the ball anymore and there is now a new position of quarterback.

As BH said Frank Sparrow is without peer, in my opinion, as a radio broadcaster of Aussie Rules.

gentlemen, gentlemen you are missing the point, commentary is supposed to be like social media, everything needs to be covered, whose going out with who, why this is happening and the rewarding players for whatever they do, heaven forbid that commentators commented abt the game, called it as it happened and recognised the true stars of the game.

Sadly the Fitzmaurices, Johnsons and Sparrows have all gone and we are left with Celebrities doing what they do best celebrating themselves.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

i cringe listening to any commentary these days. Sparrow was just brilliant i agree. nobody came close to him and never will.

i have twiddled the dial to abc these days. however they too have now become screamers and showboaters. they are all the same im afraid. football on the radio used to have this impression of professionalism and it felt the game was too serious to toy with. these days it just sounds like a circus. you can listen for 10 minutes, hear 3 goals get kicked, and never be told a score. they are all so self absorbed in their own voices and next jokes.

some may say we live in the past - we have good reason

Dick head Dwayne Is by far the worst of the lot. "He shorts it" WTF is that? Paul Roos the other night On the Couch said "he can take a good catch" at least 3 times. I wanted to smash the TV
