One of the things that really annoys me and is always everpresent in the Media whether it be Aussie rules or Cricket is that every player is a champion, every player a superstar and .......... .

The Australian Criket team is a prime example, none of them should be dropped and none of em' every really fail, why well one this they are mostly from NSW and the media cannot accept that at the moment we actually have no A grade test players. Honest assessment would suggest that the team needs to be rebuilt and not with old men but with young players who learn how to play all forms of the game. I hate cricket and find it boring but the media have made it into a laughing stock.

Then we have the AFL where the jockey, the 6pr radio announcer et al cannot accept that not every player is a champion or a superstar. Riewoldt, Cloke and other are not CHF's of champion status, winning a Premiership makes you a member of a champion team, winning a F&B is entitlement to be called that clubs champion and one of the whole league, especially when your team has actually won nothing!

Who would I rate as absolute champions, Jimmy Bartel, Michael Voss, Wayne Carey and I would even put Dean Cox nearly there because of the way he has influence the game style of ruckman over the plast 10 years, albeit M Gardiner started the trend.

A realistic assessment and commentary based on that would be refreshing and not the rubbish the Greek fish and chippie owner dishes up, who cares who is going out with so and so's sister, comment on the football not stuff that is New Idea based !
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

Good subject. Poor bloody Agar, had one innings out of the box, and all of a sudden he is the second coming. felt sorry for the kid. ( did the same with dave Warner). I am sure he is going to be a very very good player, BUT it was highly likely after that SENSATIONAL debut, that there would the crash down a bit to reality. Just give the kid time before we think he is a LEGEND already. Memo to OUR sports tenis media whilst i am at it. Hewitt is no longer a "star" of the game

agree grump. over-hype is common these days. young masten was labled a star in that utterly ridiculous article on sunday. i could not believe what i was reading.

it was tattoos this, beards that, talk about this dude, and that dude, and more tattoos, more about beards, then some dude talk, dude dude dude - i felt like i just landed on some planet somewhere. it was the most absurd thing i have ever read. it went nowhere and had no substance. it must have been some high school student on work experience who wrote it.

anyway on the subject at hand, an example of a star is G.Ablett jnr. he is just amazing.

Unka2 I am not sure that we agree on very much but in this case we do concur. Whilst Agar's performance with the bat was brilliant he was selected as a spinner in the team. Given his very limited experience it will take him some time to acquire the nuances required to become a very good bowler. Patience is what is required and support. Certainly not to be run out by Haddin as occurred in the second test. What Agar's performance did do is mask the very bad batting performance in the first innings of the first test. Without agar's performance what happened in the second test would have been the result in the first test.

What is remarkable is the critics, such as Gerard Whateley, Jim Wilson etc, who have been critical of the Australian selectors for not getting the batting order settled prior to the Ashes series. Could it actually be the case that they were desperately trying to find the players. Could Australia's performances be as a result of the degradation of the Sheffield Shield in recent times. From the best domestic competition to something slightly more than a joke. How many Shield games did WA play before November last season?

With respect to Hewitt he is still in Australia's best two to three players. A damning indictment on the development of Australian tennis in the last 10 + years.
